    Gate opens up on the World of Gaia. (Escaflowne)

    Escaflowne IIRC had magical mecha and other over the top magitech, so I think that the Empire is toast. That said, I haven't seen Escaflowne aside from the first episode, and that was years ago, so that is a huge assumption.
