It would be an interesting concept, if they had mentioned souls at all in the movies. If they had made it all force weirdness, that would have worked too. But they didn't (from what I remember), and I remember hating that book.

What you need to glean from this is that there are almost no good fics in sequel star wars. The setting is underdeveloped and uninteresting compared to other time periods, so the only interesting thing might be the characters. But the characters are also from the sequels, so not so much. There...

Eh, intelligence people valuing the intel gatherers more than the people who actually did the work makes some sense. I bet intel people in the CIA have a similar position on the Osama raid. It does ignore skywalker getting the plans to the republic though.

In TPM, he was the only good thing. A great villain, and a very good fighter. I had no problem with him. It was the rest of TPM that was a problem.
