I think,that there was such thread somewhere,but in case i am wrong - becouse gunpowder let average peasant to kill both noble heroes and dastardly monsters. And with dastardly monsters removed,what noble heroes would do,even if nobody schoot them ? Fantasy without monsters and heroes is not...
