Well,they were protestants,so they hated "papists".Even if almost all christians there were not catholics.... But,apparently for protestants from USA anybody who is not protestant,must be papist - and treated as such.

Last christians in Iraq were slaughtered trhanks to american protestants after 2003. And,they try to do the same in Iran now. Dunno why,their enemies should be catholics,not orthodox....
