Let's be honest.

That was pettiness that was fucking hilarious. Granted I find Tranatos and his Simps to be as repugnant and Kratman and his.

Just as hateful and evil as well.

So I just laughed at how small that gesture was. But it was a parting shot in a war between two miserable human beings.

Yes, but it's not like that hostility isn't mutual, or originated solely with him, they got into some sort of spat years ago back on SB and given Athene's persona, she no doubt gave as good as she got. Kratman's response was extremely petty, yes, but he's far from the first or last author to do something like that either.

Oh, sure. I'm just noting that the hate cult isn't something that just runs by itself. But honestly, if an author is so annoyed by people posting on a website, just don't go to that website? Or is there something else I'm missing here?

The hatedom surrounding Kratman on SB and SV are rather... dedicated in their commitment towards hating the man. I am given to understand, though I may be mistaken, that they don't just keep it to forums either, and have been known to harass him.

I dug up the old thread and it basically boiled down to Kratman getting butthurt that then Xanatos knew more about tanks than him. Don't get me wrong, Athene is one of the pettiest, most self-aggrandizing online monikers I've ever taken the time to remember the name of, but in that instance, it was just Kratman getting buttmad that someone called him on his shit.

Two people who are both horrible human beings and batfuck crazy went at it.

What we should be doing is laughing at it and laughing at the yellow journalist who was stupid enough to use an SV thread as a source.

What happened back on SB was that Athene stated from her professional experience as an actual Abrams tanker that Kratman's speculative ideas about how an Abrams could be defeated by insurgents were absurdly wrong. Kratman got super, super, super butthurt over this because he's accustomed to being able to shout down criticism by appealing to the fact that he's a retired Army officer, and this time he *couldn't* do so.

Edit: Kratman is ex-Army, not ex-Marines.

That was one of the specific points raised, yes. Kratman ended up claiming that it was *impossible* for anything to filter ammonia (based on complete nonsense handwaving chemistry),and then doubled down by claiming that anything that filters out ammonia is actually only "absorbing" it, so it doesn't count. And then added that the tank crew would be defeated by the odor alone anyway.

I mean that’s likely the most bias retelling of that I’ve seen. On Athene’s side there was zero willingness to accept that the Abrams is a tank that’s design is over forty years old, it might have been a different model. Instead it was clear from the start that all anyone was interested in was dunking on Kratman.

Do remember that it was exactly that kind of high handed behaviour from Athene and cronies that got them ejected from the site. Athene didn’t even have the grace to take a hint.

I don't think thats a fair comparison, Glens dad was by all accounts a great navy man, a hard worker and really did try to be pleasant to the people around him and be a good father.

That was literally what Kratman said. Nothing can filter ammonia, followed by "those ammonia filters don't count because they're really only absorbing it", followed by "the smell will overwhelm the crew anyway".

That is a nonsensical argument. Kratman made specific claims which were specifically refuted with facts and evidence. The age of the Abrams had nothing to do with those claims.

Furthermore, the original M1 Abrams entered service in 1980 and the argument in question occurred during 2011, so. . . it's forty years old now.

Childish name calling doesn't change the facts and evidence.

Again, how does the Abrams design not being brand new in any way validate Kratman's delusional ranting about ammonia being impossible to filter, much less his absurd final argument about Marines being vulnerable to bad smells? There is in fact no rule that tank designs have to be refreshed every 20 years or weaknesses magically appear, and for that matter, the design *has* been repeatedly updated throughout its service life.
 
I think arguing the particulars and taking sides on a argument that happened a decade ago between two people that are only tangentially involved in the current issue regarding Baen is drifting a little bit too far off the main topic.
