You'd think the Germans should have learned their lesson last time around, but maybe they need another Guards Army or two to storm the Reichstag again as reminder...

Germans would learn,but their prussian - like elites never.Becouse prussian had always one plan - conqer a bit of other country ,and in next generation start again.
They never had plan B if their plan A do not work,and always belived that even in disaster some miracle/like mad tsar in 1762/ would save them.
Suprisingly,it worked till 1914.Now, they are smart enough to replace tanks with money and media, but strategy is still the same.

It was Napoleon Bonaparte, I think, who said Prussia was hatched from a cannonball. Still it can't be denied that in a way they did conquer Europe. Not with armies mind you, but with the EU and the EUR currency.

Mind you I give the EU at best 25% odds not loosing enough members to be effectively dissolved de facto if not de jure by 2035

Its rather ironic given how said nations hated each within literal living memory. Seriously the French seem to have forgotten just how many of their countrymen have died due to the Germans

The Germany of WWI and WWII and even during its Kaisers is dead

Its ghost is only brought back to go NAZIS are everywhere and wish to take over Germany and the world!!!

Both nations are now close enough in a sort of Demolition Man-civilian sense, no true hatred or aggression or ambition or competitiveness anymore, now just a bunch of weirdoes who like to think themselves “urbane” and “cultured” and “European”

Soft Power is what they know, might be the result of decades of peace and the USSR’s subtle influence and it being mixed in with a bunch of other posh douchebag behaviors

Most Hard Power they know involves using “protestors” and police to take down anyone who says otherwise

They may well remember, but money talks, bullshit walks. And the Germans have a lot of money, unlike the Frogs.

Well, given what happened last time Germany had a strong military... It might be for the best they don't have much of one.
Also, unless they instate the draft to fill the ranks, well, military service doesn't seem to be socially "acceptable" / respectable over there.

Young Germans don't seem all that inclined to join, immigrants sure as hell won't if they can't be bothered to work.
Merkel took in over a million immigrants, and Germany had to fly in seasonal workers from Romania (IIRC) for the harvesting because they had labour deficit for field work.
Immigrants more then happy to take in welfare without lifting a finger...

I know someone in Germany and her father served, she tld me she had no incentive to serve herself. Hell someone I went to basic with was from Germany and she told me that her husband at the time (Army soldier, US) said not to join the germnay army as it was...well yeah. SO she joined the US
