United States Dystopian America

We have a Dystopian Europe figured we needed a Dystopian thread for back home. Let me start by saying it's amazing how many former Americans who move to another country seem to have their entire view of America shaped by either New York or California. Are that many native-born Americans ignorant of the fact that America consist of 50 different states, each with their own cultures and major cities?

I imagine that most of your immigrants in this case are 'coasters. New England East Coast (souther coastal states are actually kinda reasonable) or West Coast natives that ran away from what the Leftists were doing in those regions. Most of the people I know in The other area of the US tend not to un-ass the USA.

uh I'm confused.

They ran a business for reproductive services for dairy cattle and apparently using an ultrasound on cattle is what made them run afoul of the law, for allegedly practicing veterinary medicine without a license. They were sentenced and jailed by a commonwealth court without any kind of trial or hearing.

If you think America is dystopian, I suggest moving to literally any other country on the planet. Seriously, choose it yourself. Any of them.
We aren't as bad as other places, YET.

The American Dystopia can be averted, but only if we are honest about how many things are seriously fucked in the US these days, why, and what can actually fix said issues.

Just because pretty much everywhere else is worse, doesn't mean we should pretend the current state of the US is that far from a dystopia.

In fact, if it wasn't for Alito and Thomas, we'd already be beyond the point of no return.

There's nothing to pretend. It's as far from dystopia as can be, since it's not even half as bad as any other country that actually exists.

It's got its flaws, but so does any country. And most of those flaws are easily fixed and self-inflicted.

They aren't easily fixed, and thinking they are is part of why the GOP keeps fucking itself on overpromising things based on the idea 'simple fixes' are what most of our problem require to handle.

They aren't easily fixed
Absolutely are. It's just that nobody is raising them because they're distracted by asinine culture war issues that help nobody but the manipulators that play the Leftist lunatics and Far Right chuds off each other.

Just one or two years is all it'd take. One or two years and a few small policy changes.

Well, no wonder the GOP overpromises and underdelivers, if old Reaganite fossils like you actually think this way.

No, it's because they've strayed from Reagan's ways. Now they're just rentseeking by promising nothing and delivering less.

Reagan's ways are what got the GOP to the point Trump was the only way to save it.

Bush Sr. was right to call Reagan's economic policies 'voodoo economics', because that's what Friedman's BS amounts to, and Reagan is a joke outside his old fanbase in the GOP, while the Roosevelts are respected for actually doing what was good for the common person, instead of just what is good for high-end political donors/corporate boardrooms.

Reagan's an idol to parts of the Right that quite simply need to wake the fuck up and realize citing/clinging to Reagan's legacy is not helpful to what the modern GOP base wants done by the people they elect.

Please tell me you're joking.
No, no I am not, and the legacy of the Roosevelt's has been much more positive and lasting than Reagan's/Friedman's 'voodoo economics'.

The Civilian Conservation Corp, the Tennessee Valley Authority, many, many of the US infrastructure projects sourced to the CCC/New Deal era (including Hoover Dam), lots of the paved mountain passes, many of the campgrounds and trails in the national parks, the fire-look outs, Eleanor Roosevelt's work on race relations (people forget how much she did for this nation), trust-busting, and many other reasons.

I know tradcons and Reaganites don't like the Roosevelt legacy, but there is a reason much of the rest of the nation, even Independents, Dems and progressives, still respect both Roosevelt's far more than Reagan, and the Roosevelt legacy has been far more beneficial to the common person in the US than Reagan's/Friedman's 'voodoo economics' proved to be.

FDR was one of the single most destructive presidents we ever had. He did do some constructive things, but the New Deal advanced the work that Woodrow Wilson had done towards destroying American governance and culture.

I'm not even going to try to bother arguing economics with you; you still think like a leftist on the issue, so there's no point.

FDR was doing damage control on what Wilson had done to the nation, as well as the Dust Bowl, the legacy of Prohibition, racial bullshit pushed by the descendants of ex-Confederates, and international tensions in the pre-war era.

FDR is why the nation was able to become the power it was in WW2, even if he didn't live to see the end of it.

And Eleanor Roosevelt did a shit load to lay the groundwork for what MLK and Malcolm X accomplished for race relations/getting the Civil Rights Act passed.

You don't even bring Teddy Roosevelt into this, because even the modern GOP cannot shit talk him in favor of Reagan.

The legacy of the Roosevelt's resonates with far more American hearts than Reagan's legacy ever will, and the GOP needs to stop treating Reagan and Friedman as almost the end all, be all of what a modern GOP should be.
