What If? You are King of Space Belgium

In this scenario there seems to be few dozen worlds that claim to be origin of humanity. There was a Galactic war where 300 trillions have died on both sides and to avoid a future devastating war want to create a buffer state among one of the two great power sides. Two great powers on both sides have opted to cede territory to establish this buffer state to control FTL lanes between them.

Both sides will guarantee the independence on both sides and have nominated you as the monarch for this new nation and for you establish the capital. The local population of these new worlds also support you taking the throne with 92% supporters.

What would you do? How would the world respond?

Can we corner the market with space waffles from space Belgium? Do we have the power to enforce the Monoply?

  • Galaxy is divided between two superpowers
  • Nature of FTL means that chokepoints exist
  • Chokepoint in between the two superpowers is a neutral kingdom
So basically Fezzan from LoGH? Honestly, this is a doomed situation. The superpowers will almost certainly go to war with each other again and they're going to have to roll through our territory to invade the other, and they mind as well annex us while they're at it. If they're invading the other power than they absolutely have the capability to conquer our little neutral kingdom. Plus, they're galactic superpowers. They have a straight up insurmountable manpower and resource advantage. In such a scenario, I'd be a weak king running borrowed time. I'd try to position my state to align with whichever superpower I think is the most preferable (or the least bad) and hope that side prevails in the inevitable war.

If we assume that for whatever magical reason, the two superpowers are guaranteed to not fight each other, then perhaps our little buffer state might have some hope at a long term existence. We're going to make most of our revenue off of ships passing through our territory. Could also try to become powerful by trying to incentivize people in either superpower to defect to us and share their secrets.

It is as @Val the Moofia Boss said - in next war your kingdom would die.
What to do:
1.Be selfish, grab as much money as you could, take luxury spaceship and run.
2.Support stronger - when war come, support stronger superpower, they would win without destroing your territory. And you would be vassal, but with still living subjects.
3.Pour money into spaceship industry and science, when war come send as many as possible to remote regions of Galaxy.Your kingdom would burn, but some of your people would made new ones.
4.Try to be Machiavelli and play one superpower again another.Chance of succes near 0,but if you win, both sides die and you would remain as sole survivor.

It is a pertinent question. It would be handy to own, hopefully we cam get our hands on it.
I told you that’s earth. A primitive backwards world.

I was thinking old republic with be Republic but yes LOGH also works. But why do you think you’d be screwed? Fezzan in LOGH was able to become the richest planet and both sides saw it as valuable to keep independent till the end.

I would be screwed, becouse both human superpowers would be lead by humans.Which mean, galactic war would be question of time.Which mean,my kingdom would burn.

But in legend of the galactic heroes both the galactic empire(space Prussia) and the Free planets Alliance(space France/USA) were led by humans there are no aliens in that series. Fezzan did not burn it remained the most richest planet. After the empire took over it even became the new Imperial capital.

But still get conqered. If i would be King there, knowledge that somebody take over my capitol and made it his own would not help me.

Fezzan only lasted as long as it did because neither side was actually trying to win the war until the plot began.

The FPA was a China's People Republic where the elites were content with letting the Empire exist as a boogeyman for the FPA elites to direct the people's attention towards. The FPA was content with sending wave after wave into the slaughterhouse that was Iserlohn. It was the elite's way of disposing of undesirables. Yang was becoming too popular, which made him a threat, so at the start of the show he was assigned to another fodder wave with the expectation that he would die. Yang's survival and capture of Iserlohn was a complete surprise to the FPA's elites, and scared the Empire.

The Empire was divided into multiple factions. They weren't united against the FPA and too busy feuding with each other. The capture of Iserlohn sent the Empire into a panic, resulting in Reinhard being promoted to marshal to lead the counterattack, rallying the Empire and promptly invading through Fezzan, and annexing it in the process.
