What If? You are given superpowers

Pick any five powers, and select a date in history or timeline to be ISOTed to.

1. Amphibian - This power allows you to breathe normally underwater. You can also swim at three times normal human speed. You are also inherently skilled at boating.

2. Aviator - This power allows you to fly. Top speed is about 120 mph, with the agility of a bi-wing fighter plane. You also inherently know how to fly any kind of aircraft, with great skill.

3. Banshee - You can emit a bloodcurdling shriek which can disable, render unconscious, or even kill anyone within 200 yards. Problems: it does not distinguish friend and foe, and it is not subtle, it can be heard a lot farther than it affects.

4. Beastmaster - You can see through the eyes of animals within a quarter-mile. You can influence those you have been in close contact with, like a wizard's familiar.

5. Breathless - You don't need to breathe. Ever. Usually won't make much difference, but occasionally could save your life.

6. Bulletproof - Bullets bounce off you. Tank rounds merely knock you down and piss you off.

7. Burglar - You can open any lock up to six feet away, merely by concentrating. You can move supernaturally quietly and quickly.

8. Charming - You can win friends and influence people, better than any actor or politician. Tends to be more effective with prolonged exposure and varies depending on the abilities of the individual(s) you use it upon; it takes more effort to impact those with stronger than normal will or convictions.

9. Clairaudience - You can hear at a distance, anything in a place you are familiar with, or any other place within five miles. You have to concentrate on this and nothing else to use it.

10. Clairvoyance - You can see at a distance, anything in a place you are familiar with, or any other place within five miles. You have to concentrate on this and nothing else to use it.

11. Climb - Like Spiderman, or a gecko, you can climb even smooth glass walls.

12. Comfortable - Heat and cold don't bother you. Even conditions of -200 or +400 degrees Fahrenheit don't hurt you.

13. Command Voice - People do what you say, so long as you are within 100 feet of them. They may not like it, but they just can't help themselves.

14. Digger - You can make tunnels and caverns at will. It takes you just ten minutes to excavate a 1,000 cubic foot space (10'x10'x10'). You also know instinctive whether tunnels and caverns are safe.

15. Disguise - You can alter your appearance: skin tone, eye and hair color, facial structure, even apparent gender. You can even shrink slightly. You can mimic any human being from a teenager to the elderly.

16. Electro - You can shock people or hurl small lightning bolts. You can leave them smarting, stunned, or even dead. You can also turn into electrons and travel through wires and circuits at the speed of light.

17. Falsetto - Your voice is completely malleable. You can mimic any voice, of either gender, and even many non-human sounds.

18. Finder - You can detect things at a distance. The distance depends on mass (about five feet at five grams) and follows an inverse square law. Thus you can detect a substance at ten feet only if there are 20 grams, and so on. Works for any element or compound.

19. Flash - You are fast. Really fast. Four times your normal speed: Six Million Dollar Man fast.

20. Flexible - Your body is completely elastic. You can bend into any shape, slip through a mail slot, whatever. Like that creepy X-Files guy.

21. Fluent - You speak, read and write all languages. Also, code breaking is easy for you.

22. Foresight - You can see the flow of events around you up to 24 hours into the future. Enough to avoid, or cause, trouble, or just to get the winning lottery numbers.

23. Ghost - You can become invisible at will. Even your footsteps and voice become muffled and undetectable without yelling. Takes a full minute to disappear and reappear, however.

24. Healer - You can cure any disease, heal any wound, repair any physical damage. You can even reverse aging, up to 10 years, and raise the recently (2 days) dead.

25. Iceman - You can freeze a small pond by sticking your finger in. You can shoot a blizzard of ice and wind out of your hand. You can quickly cool down people's drinks. You're quite handy at a party.

26. Identify - You can identify any object you handle. You know its name, its function, where it was made and by whom.

27. Illusion - You can create psychic illusions which are indistinguishable from reality for the person effect (within 60 feet). You can, with five minutes preparation, create larger illusions which appear real even to hundreds of people.

28. Immortal - You never age, you never get sick, all your wounds heal in five seconds, and you will never die. You decide if that's good or bad.

29. Jumper - You can teleport without error, at will, to any place you are familiar with. You can study a photo for five minutes, and, if it is relatively recent and still accurate, jump to that location as well.

30. Kindler - You're a firestarter. You can produce small flames from your palm. You can ignite flammable materials up to ten feet away. Or you can vomit forth an ostentatious spray of napalm like a World War Two flamethrower.

31. Lethe - Forget it. No, really, forget it. You can affect the short-term memory of anyone within ten feet at will, to make them forget any event(s) in the past 24 hours.

32. Lightbringer - You can make your palm glow like a candle flame, or a searchlight. You can emit a flash of dazzling light so intense it will temporarily blind and dazzle anyone within 1,000 feet.

33. Listener - Superbly acute hearing lets you hear things 100 times better than a human, even including frequencies beyond those audible to cats and dogs. You can even echo locate and "see" in the dark.

34. Lucky - You can affect 'random' chance at will. Your dice come up sevens whenever you want.

35. Mend And Repair - You can repair any object or machine. Large machines might take an hour of concentration; a torn button a few seconds.

36. Neverlost - Your own personal GPS. You always know where you are, and what direction you are heading, and how far you have to go. You are not stopping for directions!

37. Observer - Your vision is a marvel. Your acuity is beyond an eagle's - you see 100x better than humans. You can zoom in telescopically at will. Your vision extends to ultraviolet, infrared and even microwaves and radio waves are visible to you. You see everything.

38. Paingiver - You can inflict agonizing pain on any person or creature within 60 feet of you. You can torture them, or even incapacitate them for several minutes. Do it to them for five minutes, and they'll likely die. Rather a nasty talent.

39. Puppetmaster - You can touch someone and transfer your consciousness into them. They go out and you do stuff through them; your body stays home or wherever and rests quietly. So long as no one finds it...

40. Rain God - You can greatly influence the weather, up to 10 miles around you. You can raise a fog, cool or heat the temperature 20 degrees, and wring rain from clouds.

41. Reaper - You are Death Incarnate: you can kill, at will, up to 30' away, any creature. It takes 10 seconds. It's better to be feared than loved?

42. Rerun - You can rewind time, ten minutes. Go back and do it over until you get it right?

43. Sandman - You can put anyone within 90 feet to sleep. Each person takes ten seconds. Once asleep, they are as if drugged, and sleep at least an hour before they can be roused, with difficulty.

44. Scrounger - This awesome though geeky-sounding power lets you reach out into the multiverse and 'copy' any item within reach (basically, any object that existed in a timeline, up to 2020). Small objects like a pen or a handgun take only a couple of seconds. A car takes a minute. A jumbo jet might take ten minutes of searching and pulling it through. It does, however, have to come through in contact with your hand. Hmm, I think today I need a tank...

45. Shadow - You are fearsome at night: almost invisible and inaudible. You can travel through the darkness itself, arriving in any other contiguous dark place, moving at a speed of 300 mph. In daylight, your powers are mostly useless.

46. Shatter Touch - You can break anything you touch at will. You can crack the Liberty Bell, or disintegrate someone's bad music CD. Go ahead, Play that disco music, White Boy, see what happens!

47. Sleepless - You don't need sleep. Time for more stuff. Anything good on the Telly?

48. Strongman - You are one strong, bad mofo. About four times your natural strength. Even if you are a geek, you can lift weights like an Olympian. If you're already strong, you are like the freaking Hulk now. Hulk smash?

49. Telekinesis - You can move objects within 30 feet with your mind. You can actually lift twice the weight you could physically. You have to concentrate on this and nothing else to use it.

50. Time Out - You can stop time. You cannot move then, but you can have as long as you need to come up with a solution to any problem by thinking about it. If there is a solution...

51. Total Recall - You remember everything. Every single detail of your life, back to the moment you were born. Whether this is good or bad, depends on your point of view, I suppose.

52. Waterbearer - You can produce water from your hand: a trickle or a stream to drink, a spray to clean something, or a firehose stream to knock someone down.

53. Weapon Lord - Pick one weapon: there is no one better in the world with it than you. Any other weapon, of any sort, you are merely an expert with. Don't mess with me!

54. Web - Like Spiderman, you can shoot webs to swing, to hold or to capture.

Can we pick like one second into the past? So we don't have to leave friends and family? If so then that the powers I pick are
1. Healer so I can help people and make people like me and pretty much never have to work again. Curing all disease with a touch people would think I'm a saint.
2. Charming, now people will really like me, even if I say the wrong thing it will get brushed off more likely than not and it will help influence people like healer already naturally does.
3. Foresight so I don't have to worry about dying to an accident as much.
4. Electro, for self defense but how much power do I have, can I use electricity to make a railgun with a coin?
5. Luck one of the more useful powers, Just how strong is it though? Like can I make a coin flip land on the side/edge everytime? Is it anything that is theoretically possible no matter how improbable I can make happen in my favor if needed?

Also for other powers if I am bullet and tank proof does this also apply to stabbings?

A total creep
Aviator (to get around quickly), Charming and Command voice (to make ruling easier), Healer (for that "I'm a do gooder" feeling; also - some minions are more useful than others; and helps with ruling), Paingiver (for self defence)

As to when - I'm drooling over the possibilities so much that my brain dribbled out ...
The "when" will affect my choices, of course, e.g. aviator not being useful, but foresight or raingiver becoming so.

After thinking it through here are my choices dissected.
6. Bulletproof - Bullets bounce off you. Tank rounds merely knock you down and piss you off.
This one it obvious, in a world were every military, police department, and criminal organization uses firearms the ability to laugh off bullets like they are rain is invaluable.
16. Electro - You can shock people or hurl small lightning bolts. You can leave them smarting, stunned, or even dead. You can also turn into electrons and travel through wires and circuits at the speed of light.
Honestly, it was a close call between this one and Jumper.

However, Electro has the dual advantages of being an offensive ability as well as a means of reaching anywhere on earth quickly, it also doesn't mess up like Jumper would if the location I want to travel to gets disturbed in some contrast to my memory.

Even if I chose the 'perfect memory' ability to augment 'Jumper' it would still have that massive downside.
21. Fluent - You speak, read and write all languages. Also, code breaking is easy for you.
This one is just common sense, if you travel at the speed of light to potentially any electrical source in the world you will need the ability to speak other languages quite often.
23. Ghost - You can become invisible at will. Even your footsteps and voice become muffled and undetectable without yelling. Takes a full minute to disappear and reappear, however.
This would greatly help me avoid notice if I had to emerge from say a electric line in a public place without causing a ruckus.
45. Shadow - You are fearsome at night: almost invisible and inaudible. You can travel through the darkness itself, arriving in any other contiguous dark place, moving at a speed of 300 mph. In daylight, your powers are mostly useless.
The downsides may be not being able to use it in the day, but to a night owl like me who's mostly up until dawn, it's no issue.

In short, under the optimal circumstances at night, I would literally be the boogie man. I could literally teleport to anywhere on earth with an electrical outlet, discretely exit that outlet invisibly, before using shadow to search massive areas discretely in a hurry or go to remote locations were electric lines don't reach.

That alone would literally make me the most fearsome thing on earth! But coupled with a complete immunity to small arms, hurl thunderbolts and be invisible while doing it would be beyond overkill.

As for where I go? Early June 1933 Adolf and his friends come first in my own night of knives, with Stalin followed by Mao coming next.

Anytime is acceptable, up to July 1st, 2021 of OTL or any other timeline. I'm torn between between several points myself in OTL or the Drakaverse, sometime between 1940 and 1942.

What timelines are acceptable? Because if you say anything it could get really crazy with sci fi tech and shit.

Also why would you want Drakaverse? I could understand world war 2 era, but with Draka the baddies won.

Charming, Disguise, Command Voice, Fluent, and Jumper.

First order of business: I use my disguise ability to alter my appearance. I am not going to use my normal appearance for my activities, as I want to preserve that identity for when I retire.

I google a picture of Washington DC. I jump to Washington. I go to the police station, walk in, and strike up a conversation with a police officer. I become his friend. I then have him introduce me to his boss the police chief, charm him, have him introduce me to the local justices/district attorneys, charm them, etc... I eventually crawl up the chain and begin charming senators, congressmen, the president, the joint chiefs, the head of the CIA, executives of mega corporations, etc. I have taken over the US as a shadow dictator. If anyone is becoming cooperative, I can use my influence with other people to have them replaced.

New disguise. I change my appearance to a Russian. I jump to Moscow and repeat the plan. I take over Russia. Disguise myself as Chinese. Jump to Beijing. I guess I could also take over the UK, France, Israel, Japan, and India too if I need more influence. At this point I should pretty much control the world as a shadow dictator. No one knows my true identity. I can always jump back home and relax and no one will bother me.

The foresight is so that I can avoid being assassinated while I am taking over the world, ie the Russians realize I'm rapidly taking over the US so they decide to try to kill me while I'm at a party with congressmen, but thanks to my foresight I see that I am about to get missiled, so I jump out.

My greatest weakness is that I did not pick Falsetto, so I cannot modulate my voice. As each identity, I will need to either try to adjust my pitch or accent, or I will need to make sure that no one is recording my conversations (ie, don't talk at televised conventions), lest other the intelligence agencies of other countries start matching my disguised identities, making it harder for me to take over those countries.

Anything is acceptable, up to 2021, since everyone is in their own individual timeline. You can't be in the Dominion War from Star Trek, for example, but you can be in 2021 in that timeline (and which puts you close to the Bell Riots, incidentally lol). As for why I was thinking Drakaverse, it is because I want to prevent that outcome, obviously. An Alliance for Democracy, Reich and Japanese Empire smackdown of the Draka would be fun to organize and carry out. Right now though, I'm thinking OTL 2019 would be my chosen time.

One thing I probably didn't make sufficiently clear is that Charming works in a way that is close to the Jedi Mind Trick; it is more effective on weak willed individuals and less so on those who are not. On your average beat cop, like you suggest, it will probably be more effective than on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, for example. In person use is better, such as face to face conversations or political rallies, less so on audio/video/virtual mediums of communication. Prolonged exposure works better too, especially on the aforementioned strong willed. Think of it, to continue the Star Wars references, like Palpatine's grand plan. Spend years making connections and exposing people to your power and you can more easily bend them to your will. One conversation and you suddenly control the government is probably not going to happen, sans clusterfuck nations in Africa or the like given the insane corruption and such there.

It still would be nice to have limits so we know what is and is not allowed. Correct me if I'm wrong but

we have to pick a timeline with earth right? So that means things like Avatar the Last Airbender are out, but if the laws of physics are diffrent in alternate worlds or there is some bullshit sci fi unobtinium it's ok.
So for example Code Geass would be allowed?
I'd probably prefer Code Geass to Draka since at least the evil British Empire get defeated/reformed in the end.

Yes but you seem to not understand that with your powers you can change things lol. I think you’re overthinking this.

The dude isn't offering the superpower I'd want most in that situation, which is immunity or at least resistance to mind control. I mean, my base assumption in this kind of situation is that I won't be the only one, there's gonna be other supers out there, and several of those powers can warp your brain which is a bit of a personal horror for me. I don't want to be charmed, nor possessed, nor have my memories meddled with.

So ignoring that bit of complaint, I'd go with:

Bulletproof
This defense is kinda a no-brainer.

Digger
You would not believe how many DnD campaigns I wrecked with a dire badger animal companion that could dig tunnels. Tucker's Kobolds were hosed against Mr. Fluffy tunneling around all their carefully placed traps. I love being able to dig. I'll also note this power fails to specify things like "Dirt" or "Rock" which appears to imply I can dig through anything so it makes Shatterer obsolete.

There are others more powerful, if I was min-maxing I'd probably go for time manipulation, healing, and Shadow (since I can usually be underground away from daylight) but I'd rather build a more thematic character here so:

Neverlost
Gotta know where I'm taking my tunnels.

Scrounger
It's in-theme for mole people to have all manner of odd junk and this can let me readily furnish my underground city.

Weapon Master
Gotta have some offensive power. Depending on how the universe defines weapons, I'll either go with explosives (that I scrounge) or if it needs to be something more traditional, military picks to fit my digger theme.

Very strong Dwarf vibes there, I'd say :)

So...after much thinking and pondering, I decided that I didn't want to be a combat oriented super or even one that is involved in snooping around, stealing or even tempting myself with killing for the "Greater Good."

I went with a more behind the scenes power set that would allow me a great deal of influence.

- Bullet Proof: because I'm gonna make enemies and need to be able to live through the threats...from the most common sources.
- Charming: this is self explanatory, aiming at the levels of influence of someone like "Red Reddington" and the mythical influence of the Free Masons that all the conspiracy theorists like to go on about
- Fluent: you gotta be able to speak the language to be Charming!
- Foresight: holy hannah, this is Uge! It may only be 24 hours, but wow....
- Observant: not only will this help in seeing all the hints and clues that body language will give me about all the people I'm Charming, but I can imagine it will make Foresight potentially even more powerful

I had a REALLY HARD time giving up Aviator and Scrounger b/c that would just be SO MUCH FUN!!!!!

EDIT: as for WHEN I'd get put in time...I think I'd aim for something around Woodrow Wilson or FDR so I could cutoff their efforts at the knees.

3,000 B.C.

They call him the God-King. From the sandy shores of the Minoan Kings, to the plains of the Maykop horse lords he is feared. The Bohuslän warriors of the far north tremble at his legions, the Sahel trade masters of the south pay tribute to appease him. He is the master of Atlantians, once simple raiders from the sea, he has given them the secret of steel, and used it to arm and armor his brutal warriors. His dark hulled longships send terror along the coastlines and have no equal on the Inner Sea, using dark sorcery given by their God-King to summon the thunder of the Gods.

Okay, I've been on a Swords & Sorcery/Swords & Sandles kick. Lots of Warlord of Mars and Conan-type stuff. So I thought, why not go back and turn the mysterious "Sea Peoples" of the Bronze Age into the Atlantian Empire.

I've played Chumps way too much for this question... (Champions in the Hero System) because I keep coming up with schemes...

Here's my Highlander build!

- Disguise: because you want to be able to look different as you adopt new lives!
- Healer: when you find the one, you want them to be able to journey through the ages with you
- Immortal: duh, there can be only one, and it's me!
- Observer: I love this power b/c catching all the details is so huge in life
- Weapon Lord: can't be The One (tm) if you didn't live to gain the prize!

PS....there will likely be more answers from me

EDIT: completing all my 'answers'; I'd insert with this one in Roman times, and then move around to make sure I around to witness Christ.
