Oregon Health Authority moves to implement 'permanent' indoor mask mandate

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) assembled a Rules Advisory Committee (RAC) earlier this week to address a permanent indoor mask mandate in the state. Oregon is one of a few states that still retain one nearly two years into the pandemic.

The committee included several community stakeholders, including representatives from the hospitality industry, the business sector, and faith communities, according to local ABC affiliate KATU.

Dr. Paul Cieslak, the medical director for communicable diseases and immunizations with OHA, explained to KATU that OHA's potential "permanent" indoor mask mandate is not necessarily permanent because it can be repealed.

"Permanent means indefinite. It doesn’t necessarily mean permanent," Cieslak said. "We can repeal it as well, but we are only allowed to have a temporary rule for 180 days, and anything that goes beyond 180 days, we cannot extend it."

The RAC reportedly met with OHA for approximately two hours.

The public will be permitted to offer comment when OHA proposes the indoor mask rule formally, the date of which has yet to be announced.

Gov. Kate Brown, D-Ore., reinstated an outdoor mask mandate in the state amid the surge of the delta variant in August. The OHA repealed the outdoor mask mandate in November, but kept it in place indoors.

"We continue to see a concerning pattern of COVID-19 spread throughout the state, with the heaviest concentrations found in counties with lagging vaccination rates," OHA Director Pat Allen said at the time.

Other health experts, such as Johns Hopkins Professor Marty Makary, have spoken against indefinite mask mandates.

We may have a baseline rate of COVID cases hovering around where they are now in the Southeast forever," Makary said in a November interview. "We are entering an endemic phase and the question we need to ask as a society is, do we want a perpetual society with people masked?"

Makary added: "And the marginal benefit of masking is diminishing as the prevalence declines. Also, in many instances we're requiring masks of people at the absolute lowest risk and by insisting on throwing the kitchen sink at virus transmission we will have to pay the piper somehow. That may come in the form of a loss of human connection, more increased mental health problems, and in children a series of problems including issues in development and speech development and other downsides."

Manchin is not playing the game Biden wants on the vax/virus stuff.

More Dems willing to do what Manchin does could really help solve some of the political polarization our nation faces now.

We cannot depend on the GOP to save the US, we have to try to get sane moderate Dems like Manchin into office as well.

While I don't oppose the idea, I'd respectfully point out we're going to have a hard enough time trying to kick the RINOs and other Deep State pawns out.

True enough. What about dudes who really helped workers, then?
They don't exist.

The vast majority of people's (99.99%) actions are based on some selfish desire.

Socialists and communists helped workers so they could get into power.

And then they rule over the workers like the capitalists they got rid of.

Even Trump and Co. are not doing what they're doing out of the pure goodness of their heart.

They are preventing the enemy from taking over the USA and western world, because they'd be the first ones executed if that happens.

Every 2-5 thousand years you might get a Jesus or Buddha, but that's a might.

I don't care if our leaders have damned orgy's and parties on their own time as long as their not to corrupt and respect the rights and automy of their voters and are at least semi competent I'm more or less cool.

Maybe it's time to stop thinking a 'more pure' Right is actually politically viable on its own, and recognize that moderate Dems like Manchin are key to actually curbing the worse of the Far-Left.

The Right will never succeed on its own, never be big enough to get the power needed to be able to ignore the Dems wholesale, and Dems willing to stand up to the lunacy in thier ranks are a key part to unfucking US politics as a whole.

Too many here seem to think just fixing the GOP and getting it power will be enough to start fixing things. The Dems won't go away, but maybe it's possible to get Far-Leftists out of the Dems, and shift the Dems a bit right-ward, or at least closer to center.

Putting all your hopes on the GOP alone being able to fix the problems facing this nation is foolish and naive.

They’ll likely to fix their own problems on their own eventually. Maybe even sooner rather then later given how Biden’s ‘presidency’ is playing out. Either that or you’ll get a handful trying to go Full Socialist, or at least claiming too, which will just divide the Left more and push more moderates to our side.

Edit:

It appears Germany has caused the military to start rebelling a bit, due to Wu Flu vax shit. They even broke out the stahlhelms, it seems.

Not sure if I should be unnerved, or happy, that the German military seems to have started finding it's balls on this issue.

If anyone was to blame, it would be Austria-Hungry and Serbia. I know your Polish and are contractually obligated to hate Germany, but really, try to stay attached to reality.

And I’d take the Prussians for all their flaws over the sorry mess Germany is today. Which mind you, isn’t as bad as when Hitler and his thugs were running the show, but still far from good.

In good(?) news on that front...I don't think either sentiment is necessary because as far as I can tell that photo is from the oddball ceremony held by the Bundeswehr to celebrate Merkel since she's leaving the chancellorship.

Hmm, well being rid of Merkel would be a reason to celebrate for most people, even if this is a formal ceremony.

Timing of it is just a bit...odd, though I know Merkel was effectively voted out weeks ago, and the lockdown stuff only dropped a few days ago, IIRC.

Nope, germans are obliged to belive that they have rights to Poland,do not ask me why.
Personally,we poles do not care about them as long as they stay on their turf.
Well, they must pay reparation and stop prosecuting polish minority, but that it is all.

Back to topic - germans for some reasons belived that Russia would be impossible to defeat after WW1,so they try start war earlier.
And,if they do not fucked Schieffen plan, they would win and create german Europe.Their prussian stupidity made them send
part of troops to fight russian in East Prussia where they were no needed - not mention, that in entire East Prussia there was nothing worth defending.
