China Wuhan Virus Pandemic

Well, this is certainly a relief. While overall I don't really care about wearing a mask or not, my workplace has been mandating that we wear them.

It's annoying to have to wear both a mask and safety glasses at the same time, because my glasses inevitably fog up. Not being able to see around mobile equipment can be much more immediately dangerous to my health than Covid.

And I know I'm not the only one at work who feels that way.
It's more than just the masks, it's the damn social distancing, and all the shit that has come with it.

My workplace doesn't enforce social distancing outside of the lunch room that I never eat in* but they are zero tolerance with masks. Which is a pity, because some of us wear glasses and work with shit that will put your eye out or kill you if you take one wrong step. Masks and glasses don't work well together.

*Seriously, eating lunch behind a plastic barrier makes me feel like a pig in a factory farm.

Oh, I completely understand, as I have to wear glasses due to near-sightedness.

Doing anything that requires both mask and glasses is a pain, particularly when it is already starting to warm up outside.

My workplace also mandates masks and eye protection, but fortunately they had the foresight to get a ton of anti-fog wipes for us as well. They mostly work, Mostly.

And the mask has slipped. Now what some have suspected for months is being publicly discussed. The lockdowns aren't being done for safety concerns anymore, and may never truly have been about that.

As a civilization we are going through the stages of grief.

Shock, Denile, Anger, Barganing, depression, testing, and then acceptance.

The average person is going to have to face up to the fact that in order to get his life back very powerful people need to be removed from power and doing so is going to be a very shitty time.

Thankfully Texas is fighting back, as are Florida and Wisconsin.

Getting Florida Man/Woman, Texan Cowboys, and Cheeseheads banding together might be able to turn the tide.

Edit: Oh, and Mississippi as well. Red Tide incoming.

The dominos are falling:

Now to see if Biden tries to force them to stay closed, and how large corps respond to this. If big corps start trying to force masks, while small businesses don't, it could shift the economic downtrend the pandemic has started.

There are always plenty of people ready to take the second step. With Florida and the Dakotas proving that mask mandates and lockdowns have a negligible effect on Covid deaths and now Texas and Missouri ending their lockdowns after performing more than due caution over the past year other states will follow. The evidence is months old by this point, so now it's all a political calculus. Are your constituents willing to continue to be economically and socially strangled for the sake of political showmanship? Some are and I'm willing to bet that Democratic banner states like California and New York will be among the last to back out. Though my personal bet is on New Jersey being the last man out.

I myself am hemming and hawing over whether to go to the local gun show this weekend or not. I mean, I probably shouldn't just to avoid spending money, but still. :giggle:

I mean, unless you get there early, you're not going to find any ammo to buy, and it's going to be overpriced as shit.

Also, unless you're paying cash to avoid leaving a trail, there's really no point to going to a gun show for a gun or accessory. Parts and guns are still better priced online.

Considering I normally go for military surplus, it's much better to be able to look at them in person than trusting descriptions online. ;)

Clearly we are making advances in science everyday leading to new breakthroughs in treatments, drugs, and definitions.

The ministry of truth at work. ;)

From a purely medical standpoint, it's not without merit -- while immunity can indeed be developed through previous infection, intentional exposure to wild-type virus is not an effective strategy for developing herd immunity. The only notable disease that intentional exposure has been a historically successful strategy for is chickenpox/shingles, but even that is largely because a vaccine for chickenpox did not exist until relatively recently (1995), and also because childhood chickenpox is simultaneously highly infectious and a mild low-risk disease.

Dr. Peter Hotez wants to shine the spotlight on the 'global pharmacy' that is India's pharmaceutical industry and how it's helped with the vaccine rollout and vaccine diplomacy through the Developing World.

Hindustan Times said:
During the webinar, “Covid-19: Vaccination and Potential Return to Normalcy - If and When”, Dr Hotez, an internationally-recognised physician-scientist in neglected tropical diseases and vaccine development, said that the COVID-19 vaccine rollout is "India's gift' to the world in combating the virus.

India’s drugs regulator gave emergency use authorisation to Covishield, produced by Pune-based Serum Institute of India after securing licence from British pharma company AstraZeneca, and Covaxin, indigenously developed jointly by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech and Indian Council of Medical Research scientists.

The webinar was organised by Indo American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston (IACCGH).

“This is something very special and I see it myself because I'm on weekly teleconferences with our colleagues in India, you make a recommendation, and within days it's done and not only done, but it's done well and with incredible rigor and thought and creativity," Dr Hotez said, stressing that he felt compelled to make this statement because "India's huge efforts in combating global pandemic is a story that's not really getting out in the world."

Yeah, and I doubt it will matter at all, or actually lead to an end of the lockdowns and mask mandates in blue states.

Because I've seen videos of 'experts' on CBS who are now saying, in so many words, that the Wuhan Flu should be not be considered a pandemic anymore. Instead it shoukd considered the virus to be endemic to our biome now.

And they may not be wrong either.

Due to the nature of the bug and the situation surrounding the initial outbreak, we will probably never be able to fully eradicate it from human populations, particularly if the rumor about it being spiked with HIV proteins is true.

At best, the Wu Flu vaccine will be added on like the normal flu jabs in people's yearly physicals, till the next bug is unleashed (and China has proven these sorts of attacks work), when this will all start again.

I hope the states which are opening up STAY open if Biden decides he has to shut everything down, due to 'spikes' from those states. However, let's be real, that has no good ending if Fed forces are used to try to force social distancing and mask mandates on 'hot zone' states.

The civil rights that have been cast aside in trying to fight this virus are...unlikely to ever fully return. They've let the mask slip that the lockdowns and other mandates are actually being enforced for what might be 'far-left ecological, social, and power grab' reasons, not public health or safety. We had theraputics to begin win, and wouldn't have needed to lockdown at all if people had politizied the virus for the 2020 election.

The states ending the mask and social distancing mandates might be able to turn the tide, but only time will tell.
