Second trailer dropped for the movie.

Not as cool as the first one in my opinion and it reveals more about the potential characters and plot. Seems pretty decent so far though. I didn't notice any quality minefields on the first watch through. Can't wait to see this movie in theaters sometime this decade.

I'm not too familiar with the Wonder Woman DC mythos. But I'm sure I'll get around to seeing the movie.

Yeah after seeing all of the five or so trailers Warner Brothers dropped three days ago or whatever, I can say that Wonder Woman 1984 is really the only movie I actually look forward to seeing to any degree and even then, it's not a big want of mine. I'm such a consumer I think I saw every Marvel film in theaters, but after being burned by a few DCEU films, it's hard to be excited for them. But the first Wonder Woman was a pretty decent film and I did love the different settings both with the Amazons and in the Great War time period.

The first trailer for WW84 was great and really evoked the 80's atmosphere they were going for and I really liked the presentation of Maxwell Lord. I'm not hugely familiar with the DC comics, especially Wonder Woman's rogues gallery and canon, so I don't know much about Maxwell Lord beyond the basics and what the trailer offered but I like what I see. The thinking, strategic villains are great and can add alot more to the stories quality when done well. Especially if they are out of the mainstream like Maxwell Lord is.

This trailer though, didn't really add much excitement for me. If anything, seeing Cheetah onscreen was kinda... meh? I dunno, as a general villain she doesn't really evoke much IMHO. But I've been wrong with the appearance of villains before and Kristen Wig is a good actress even if mostly in comedies and seems well cast. So I'm still interested, but the new trailer didn't really add anything more to my anticipation.

Alright, I’m not that familiar with Wonder Woman comics, so maybe there is an explanation for this. In the last movie, Wonder Woman beats up Aries, the literal god of war. After that, seeing her fight a woman who is half human and half cheetah seems a bit underwhelming.

IIRC Cheetah is to Wonder Woman what the joker is to Batman, or Lex Luthor is to Superman. Their primary antagonist.

That maybe so but Giganta is still waaaaaay cooler.

And way bigger, literally and narratively. 😁

I for one, look forward to the deluge of Cats memes this will unleash upon the internet. As for the movies itself, I'll probably take a look. The Wonder Woman movie was decent so they get me at the sequel after the dearth of anything else this year.

As for the villains, Cheetah is Wonder Woman's 'standard' nemesis and suffers from the fact that Wonder Woman doesn't really have a memorable Rogues Gallery the way Batman or Superman does. Maxwell Lord is going to be what makes or breaks the movies as he's one of those villains without a shtick, so he can be whatever the writers want him to be. All I remember him from in comics is when he murder's Blue Beetle so we'll see what he's about this time.

Color me curious--I adore the 80s-aesthetic tone and callouts that the title itself works on and that the earlier trailers built with their music and neon and everything. This, somewhat sadly, doesn't really do much more in that respect other than the clothing joke at the end, and--also being pretty unfamiliar with Wonder Woman lore and everything else--doesn't give me too much guide on what to expect other than Cheetah* and the return of Chris Pine. Hopefully it doesn't suffer from the first film's...Kind of sidelining of Wonder Woman and that early-middle arc that drags on and goes a bit ho-hum?

Is really cool to see the Lasso of Truth getting some screentime in ride-the-lightning, block-bullets, crazy-shit glory. A big problem with the first Wonder Woman (alongside other failings, really) was its relegation to 'gimmick' status and very limited use--only really showing up in the village-fight against Germans in the middle act as I recall. But it's a cool thing--perhaps one of the things most connected to the character other than the standard super-bracers or invisble-jet silliness...I don't see why it took studio execs so long to discover that, but it seems they might have finally caught-on.

*Wonder Woman really is just get-it-past-the-censors fetish-fuel isn't it? Catgirls, giantesses, Amazons, rope-binding and THAT whole scene of inspiration the creator had...

Apparently the movie did release and I just didn't notice and/or forgot. Somehow it already made a $100 million dollar box office despite over 60% of the theaters in the US and Canada being closed. It's also been released on HBO Max.

So I saw the movie and liked it. Overall a strong superhero movie that probably would have a billion dollar summer block buster in a different year.

The main villain Maxwell Lord is nice to see. He is different then past villains one sees in Marvel or other D.C. movies. But fits very nicely with the first Wonder Women movies theme about goodness in humanity.

You can feel his desperation as the movie goes. Overall it is nice to see a villain that has no evil goal beside greed. Lord wanted to show the world that he was not a loser, give his son everything he never had and have his son love him. But forgetting his motivation along with sunk cost and a lack of empathy caused him to become a villain. Overall I would say one of the better villains I have seen in a while.

I know there where some claims that he was suppose to he a Trump stand in. But I found outside of the blond hair cut there is little to tie him to Trump outside of the 1980's Amercia CEO stereotypes. The massive marble and gold everywhere is a standard of New York 80's motif. Greed is good has been a 1980's theme in many movies from Scrooge to Wolf of Wall Street. So anyone going to see Wonder Women take down a Trump SI is going to be disappointed.

The action scenes and fights are well done. I especially liked the last major one in the Whitehouse. The chaotic rent though the halls keep the longer fight scene interesting. The other fight scenes are more standard but the choreography was well done and don't feel long.

They also did a good job showing a Wonder Women a bit lost and mainly floating the world after the events of WWI. They bring Steve back and allows Wonder Women to grow and move on. I know it was mainly to have a fan favorite come back but they fit him into the plot without any trouble. I have to say that seeing actual character growth in Wonder Women is something rare.

The movie also does a good job showing the absolute chaos that giving anyone a money paw could create. Also how easily a few words said in anger could backfire. Even a wish said in kindness like wanting a lost love can come with great cost. You can't help but feel sorry for Cheeta even if she is only Hollywood ugly and unpopular and how her wish to change means burning out the parts that made her the kind of person to become friends with homeless man.

There are some weak points.

The twist with Cheetah was a basic stereotype and could be seen a mile away. I would say overall Cheetah added little to movie and could have been written out. I do like that she turned down giving up her power multiple times. Not to mention the character felt real and human to me. It is just that she is a small side plot more then anything else and wasted. Having Cheeta a bigger role or even her own movie would have been better.

They also did not go crazy girl power liked some feared. Overall Wonder Women is herself and that is all that matters. There are some scene about how Wiggs character has to deal with sexism and jerks pre Cheetah but nothing out there that any would complain about. The movie does show that the excesses of the 1980's are not a great thing and that you can have it all without work is not the best thing for a society. But it is a small subplot at best.

The stick to the main themes of the first movie about Wonder Women finding the goodness in humanity despite the bad parts.

So I would have to say that it is well worth seeing and if you enjoy Superhero movies and that Wonder Women 1984 is just as good as the first one.
