What is the strongest magic-wielding fantasy world modern USA can defeat?

Sauron surrenders. We lose.

I was about to say.

The US military can beat the third age...probably prime Numenor.

But it ain't doing a God damn thing to the host of Aman, the Valar, the forces of Aangbad and fucking Sauron.

If you close the right doors quick enough, a modern warship would probably be able to stay afloat after being cut in half. It wouldn't be going anywhere under its own power, but if the weather was particularly cooperative you may even be able to tow both halves to drydock.

This has actually happened with vessels caught in particularly bad Great Lake storms. Even ones built in the 1900s.

One famous one was ripped in half by a storm and her rear half kept chugging for another ten miles before it sank.

Presumably our warships could do the same.
