What if the Department of Defense Secretly made a Clone Army

In this scenario during middle of the Vietnam War. The DOD with backing from President Johnson begins a secret project. This project is to make a special Clone Army of Supersoldiers. They selected 5 men to be the genetic templates for the Clones and got their DNA. These men were all Green Berets, SEALs and Recon Marines. By 1972 the DOD had perfected the Cloning and Genetic splicing process and the first of the new batch of Clones were created. They would be for the next 18 years trained in the Art of Combat. They would learn all aspects of warfare from Piloting Aircraft, Crewing Boats to Special Operations Warfare. Each of the Clones had the physical capabilities of MCU Captain America. And the acute senses of Xmen Wolverine. By the time the Clones were mature enough to deploy in combat. The Cold War was about to end.

A few of the Clones would deploy in Special Operations missions in 1989 but the project itself would end by 1991. The whole time this project was not public knowledge. And all info leaked out was called Tinfoil Hat conspiracy theory. After the Cold War the Clones would be used in different missions across the would and in some rival countries to eliminate percieved enemies of the US. It would be in 2016 that the existence of the Clone Army would be revealed. And the Shitstorm that would be created hits the fan. Now the whole world knows that the US has a Clone Army and some countries are hyper pissed. What happens from this point forward. How will the general public react to the Clones themselves?

Special Note: As stated before these clones have the physical abilities of MCU Captain America. And the acute Senses of Wolverine. They also upon reaching age 18 only aged at 1/2 the rate of a normal human. Meaning eventhough many of them are in their late 40s they still look like they are in their mid 20s. The clones are extremely loyal to the United States and are incapable of betraying the American People. There are 2,500 clones in total.

It shows the state of the crisis in the US that an election victory can be called a putch! Especially when the defeated candidate, willingly or not basically incited some of his more extreme supporters to what was clearly verging onto putch territory.

To be more exact they believe in upholding the Constitution. And will disobey any orders that go against it.

Of course the big issue here is how the constitution is interpreted. In many cases it would be fairly straightforward but in others it could be rather clouded.

In terms of the initial post fortunately such technology didn't exist then and probably doesn't exist now. However it would raise distinct issues in terms of both internal politics, with a secret army of assassins and ditto in international diplomacy. Apart from anything else just about every sudden death or internal crisis is likely to be blamed by someone or another on those cloned soldiers. It would be a huge propaganda boost for people like Putin and Xi.

(Fictional based) Major issues that will come from this include.

1. Demands as to why this technology hasn't been used to save lives, this cloning and gene manipulation tech would allow for all kind of transplants and eradication of major illnesses.
1a. If this data is used after the reveal then major changes will be made to medical care given that it would be virtually impossible to prevent people from using the information to create new cures and prevent massive outbreaks of currently incurable viruses, genetic defects etc etc.
2. These soldiers may be regarded as little more than indentured slaves, they've been created to be weapons and kept for decades as these weapons, meaning they have no homes, no life outside the military, no real future.
2a. This would make them similar to the Spartan IIs of Halo, all they have is their brothers. Although if they are built just as normal humans with above average abilities, there will be issues with this unless their have been genetically manipulated to have no sexual desires, no requirement to reproduce, no requirement for social interaction etc.
3. If the above happens there will be issues for the sitting government no matter who is in the seat, simply because both sides of the house have been in power for the last 30 years and so knew about it. Tarring both sides with the same problems which will cause even more issues that existed at the time.
4. Expect investigations by the military and civilian law enforcement and attempts to steal the information or kidnap one or more soldiers by threat nations (and likely allied as well) to try to create their own soldiers. If private individuals get that info then expect that data to appear on the black market as well.
5. If the US has these soldiers what is to stop them making more and more as they improve the genetic technology, people will be asking if they have been doing so or even building a full scale army (IE more than ten thousand men) so expect a lot of people looking into lot of things.
6. Marches, Parades, even Riots may happen within the US itself with this information, look at what we have seen in the last year or so with different mentalities deciding that they need to be heard and so causing affrays, now imagine that writ large as everything above I've mentioned seeps into the public consciousness. You have five templates, how many will see these created beings a 'White Slaves' or 'Black Slaves' or 'Asian Slaves' or anything similar, then there are those who will see them as soulless abominations, extreme religious factions will try to have them destroyed while others will face down those self same factions violently if they have to.

The United States of America has a very strong war cult today. Publicly visible clone soldiers, or clones who become generals will have a good chance at running for President. If the clones are used for most or all frontline combat operations, then I'd imagine that the clones will have won all of the accolades and respect in the military. They could become highly visible public figures, like Seal Team 6 or Chris Kyle. Their status as clones might not be revealed until 2016. Even if the clone soldiers didn't appear on TV at all until 2016, they will still climb up the ranks, and - if allowed (no idea if the clones have human rights or if the military will forbid clones from becoming generals) - then the clones could become generals, possibly even Chiefs, which could become a stepping stone to becoming President.

Regardless, by 2016 the clone soldiers will be highly visible public figures who will be able to influence American politics. If, as @Ash's Boomstick mentioned, they are treated as indentured servants, then this will be the time the clones will be able to change that and push for clone rights.

Clone Soldiers are slaves, pure and simple, built to purpose. If slavery of synthetic persons is allowed, then commercial pressures would bulldoze the whole plan away and clones would soon be commercially available. No one cares about the fates of poor dumb draftees and there are plenty of nuggets out there eager to sign up for the 'adventure' and twenty one dollars a month. Remember, Johnson and the government couldn't build shit if they ate Moctezuma whole. Its a corp that will own the tech and they won't give it to Johnson for twenty one dollars a month or any net present value thereof.

So why would anyone waste clone production on replacements for hillbillys that you barely have to pay when you could sell each clone for hundreds of thousands? Every rich nerd would have a Xena or a Scarlett of his own and every child would be genetically engineered. The paradigm shift would whiplash the society into something unrecognizable.
