Finished FFXIV Endwalker's story. I give it a 5/10. Rushed, convoluted story that flip flopped on what it wanted to be. Is it a grim war story? Is it a magic highschool slice of life anime? Is it a bleak story about the end of the world? Or is it Kingdom Hearts? The story was very awkwardly paced, with very long stretches of nothing happening. The writing is also very repetitive, with a lot of speeches where characters say literally the exact same thing they said 5 minutes ago (or a slight variation of). The story was also very cynical (despite the repetitive speeches and empty platitudes about hope and such). I found the rolequests to be much more enjoyable.

Endwalker's story wasn't bad. There were genuinely good moments in it. I really liked the Garlemald zones and the 5th zone. There are also some nice cameos. At Endwalker's worst, it's not offensively bad, just meh. I find it hard to believe that this came from the developers who gave us Shadowbringers just two years ago. ShB has become overhyped this year but it is still a solid good game.

I will check out the next expansion, but if the future of FFXIV's storytelling is going to be more Kingdom Hearts sob stories from Ishikawa, I'm out.

Been meaning to ask, how does the class-system work in FFXIV work? Are you restricted to one class per character, or can you switch them with some restrictions?

You can play all classes on a single character. They have their level progression, and classes level up 2x as fast up until your highest level class. For example, you start as a lancer and level it up to 18 and decide you want to try out another class, like archer. Your archer would level up twice as fast until you hit 18. You could then decide you actually prefer lancer and switch back to that and keep leveling up. You can switch classes so long as you are out of combat and not in a dungeon.

The classes added in expansions have level requirements. Ie, to become a samurai (introduced in Stormblood), you first need a job that is at level 50.

I feel that the expansion jobs are overall better designed and more fun to play than the starter jobs. The starter jobs have gotten dozens of reworks over the years, with several starter classes getting reworks in the new expansion. I feel that the starter jobs also suffer in that they don't really start getting fun mechanics until the 60s or 70s, but FFXIV makes heavy use of level scaling where you are scaled down to the level of the content and cannot use your higher level abilities (so chances are if you queue for a dungeon, you're going to get a lower level dungeon where you can't use your mechanics), and you don't start reaching level 60/70ish content until at least 150 hours into the game. There are 100 hours of cutscenes and at least 100 hours of gameplay, and that's if you queue as a tank or a healer and don't do any side content or try out other jobs and such. Whereas the expansion jobs have their fun mechanics available to them from the start. So my recommendation would probably be that you should try the expansion jobs when you get the chance.

According to Steam I gave Conflict: Denied Ops about three minutes of game time before uninstalling the game. It just did not look or feel like an interesting game for me to play after the roller coaster of shooting quality that was Bulletstorm. The dated graphics, the blah story and characters and introduction and then realizing this was meant to be a coop game but I was likely compelled to control two characters, that was a big enough NOPE for me to even give it more of a try.

But again... technically I did play the game so that's nice.

Put about two hours into Crysis 2 since my last post. The graphics are beautiful (yes this is the old edition, not the recently released remastered edition). The shooting/gameplay seems fine. The Ceph Grunts aren't scary but are intimidating to engage with my current weaponry. The story... it is not interesting me that much. I hadn't played Crysis in ages but I remember not being Prophet in the original game but actually Nomad and we were going to go back to rescue him or whatever at the end of the game because he was acting weird or whatever.

But now its assumedly years later and I'm some random Marine (or am I) that Prophet rescued from a CELL Kill Team that is killing Marines for some reason and Prophet blew his brains out and bequeathed his suit upon me and the Ceph are invading a cordoned off city and there's a virus and things are going on and alien tissue boosts my suit capabilities and... and... and... yeah I am trying really hard to be interested enough in continuing this game but so far it's the decent gameplay, not the weird as heck storyline that is keeping me going.

Took a break from playing unplayed games from my Steam Library but over the past three or so evenings I played through Telltale Games Game of Thrones. It's probably the least liked Telltale Games experience I've had so far, but not really due to the gameplay or choices I made, it's just the story seems to have more contrivances and plot/character induced stupidity to force the games moral quandaries and linear storytelling.

I loved the game and characters and storytelling in spite of it but then I even played through the ending and it was almost literally the same ending completely regardless of what choice I made with the Prince I chose to be Lord. Which I guess I shouldn't be surprised, it is a Telltale Game of course so you can choose from upwards of ONE exciting ending regardless of the choices made. Still a fun journey to take and better then how the television series wrapped up.

Would've loved a sequel and ya know... actually figure out what the North Grove is but it was not written to be so.

Vanguard is worse
Vanguard is so woke that it's literally panned by left wing gamers as 'too woke'
Started playing Super Mario Sunshine again.
All Stars Switch or the GameCube? Trust me, GameCube version of Sunshine is overall the superior on controls but it's still one of my favorite GC games of all time along with Sonic Adventure 2 and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.

Well, 64 hours and I cleared Tokyo Xanadu Ex+, finishing the After Story.

I'm not sure I could do another playthrough, that's a really long game for me.

Albeit there's still a lot I could do... I'm only level 61/150.

I may do a new game plus, because I actually really like the combat.

I'm also 8 hours into Trails of Cold Steel I.

Favorite character in TX? Also, any background NPCs you liked?

Probably Shiori, Asuka, and Kou.

My favorite background NPCs... I wish Erika had gotten more screentime. I was actually expecting her to get involved in the plot at some point. I also liked the Fortune Teller.

I liked that the anime seemed to suggest pairings among the main cast - Shio x Mitsuki and Sora x Yuuki are especially obvious.

I wish they had shown Jun's cosplay as Magical Girl Alisa.
