It looks like Croatia will be the next country to buy Rafale. Originally they intended to purchase used Israeli F-16s, but USA vetoed the deal, so they had to repeat the tender. F-16 was kind of expected to win, but they choose Rafale instead.

Wonder why the US blocked the deal. I was unaware of any issues with Croatia.

Officially due to Israeli electronics, apparently that is some stuff that is not supposed to be shared with the NATO

Another design I liked, the A-3 Skywarrior. The pilot of this one proving the old maxim that any landing you can walk away from is a good one.

The Skywarrior was a great plane, with it's biggest problem being, IMO, the lack of ejection seats(A3D - 'All Three Dead'). The Air Force solved this problem with the B-66 Dominator, but that plane had other problems(not least the fact that all the changes the Air Force wanted ended up delaying the Dominator, something bad for an aircraft intended to be a provisional one).

That reminds me how Italian WWI plane SEP 2 was nicknamed Sepultura per duo - grave for two
or Soviet WWII fighter LaGG-1 was nicknamed Lakirani garantirani grob - lacquered guaranteed grave

Adorably sweet! Several young Gripens are accompanying an elderly B-52H on one of his routine patrols.

Those baby Gripens would fear the old lady if they knew her kill count.
If only she had the turret on the back like they used to have!

Tu-22 the plane that uses vodka (more or less) as a refrigerating.

John D. Clark (he of rocket propellant fame) included an anecdode in his book Ignition! about the US Navy comparing 100% UDP ethanol with 100% denatured alcohol. Performance was the same and sure enough, like the Russians, US Navy sailors were drinking the alcohol.
