Ultraviolence or Gore or Extremely Bloody Descriptions

If I ever write a fanfic or story, I plan on it involving LOTS of blood and broken bodies

Just what exactly are the limits to how much I can describe a character pounding somebody’s body to a pulp or bleeding out or being gored to death?

Or descriptions of corpses?

Let’s just say this came from me playing Katana Zero & Hotline Miami

There’s a sort of way the games do “I left corpses in my wake, when I look back, I feel sick”

The sort of “deconstruction” that comes with videogame characters who get High Scores or Achievements and are involved in a quest/requirement that goes “kill everybody”

Would it be okay, if that’s the intended effect of the MC being actually a “Very mentally disturbed person” who revels in violence & killing and isn’t exactly always onto swift painless deaths

I'm not a mod here, but I would imagine one way of gauging is it, does it feel like gratuitious levels of violence, over the top. Or in other words done for violence sake.

A better example is that I read quite a few crime novels, recently I've been reading a Scots author called Stuart McBride, and some of the examples of murder, torture or injury can be a bit...graphic. However, never have I felt it's done for pure shock value, it's in the context of the story. Does that make sense?

Though ultimately, it's up to the staff to decide.

What about for describing this kind of stuff

Take note, most kills are one hit KO’s unless they’re knocked out and you gotta execute em

The latter are what seems more sadistic or “slow” depending on whether or not the execution is a simple stomp to the head or slit of the throat instead of repeated punches and putting a chainsaw to a guy
