I'm combining my separate efforts into one thread because so far they're both confined to digital art. This thread will serve as a hub for my work.

1. "Strangereal-style" alternate word setting.

The past few months have seen me shifting my priorities away from writing fanfiction and more towards an original universe. This isn't to say that I won't try to write fanfiction at all anymore, just that I have other ideas.
Progress on the world so far:
After some initial thoughts for a single story, I decided to get a basic shape of the world down on paper, then refine it in Gimp or Paint.net.
Here's the initial results of my first drawing session.

A tracing in Gimp.

The most recent envisioning after some rearrangements. You can download the full-sized version here.

The Geography? The Lore? That's the hard part. I will work on it later. For reference, this world's Axis is on a tilt similar to earth. Suggestions are welcome.

2. Amateur Sprite customs and edits.

Long story short, I've been part of a Website called Sprite Wars for the past seven years. It's a site where people didn't just make custom sprites, they used them armies in community comics. We've been active despite having started in 2004, running parallel to other communities dedicated to making Halo Sprites in Metal Slug scale and another (inactive) one that made Bionicle sprites both started by a Legendary guy named InnerRayg. But the problem is that a lot of the old imagehosting websites people used to post their stuff keep altering their terms of service or dying and that means lots of comics aren't available. I would've joined in the comics aspect if I hadn't been distracted by schoolwork and being a whiney teenage bitch for a time after my family moved to where I am now.
Then my fucking computer's harddrive had a heart attack last August and all the Sprite Wars materials I'd saved were lost; recovery could cost something like $750. Fortunately I recovered most of the stuff from the many USB Drives I obsessively pack files onto with recovery programs, and I saved a lot of our comics on archive.org. We also have a private file-hosting folder with plenty of material on it.
The site itself isn't that active, we have a large discord to post sprites and discuss lore. It's been a lot more vibrant now thanks to an influx of Zoomer members like me. PM me for the link if you care enough. I also have to stress a major rule on the server is NO POLITICS!
Our Deviantart group.
My Deviantart account was linked in the map section, I'll be posting other sprite work there.
Now, onto what I've tried to make. Our custom sprites are almost exclusively scaled with the Metal Slug characters The gun sprites are pretty small, I'll resize them to be easily visible and post them later.. Most of this comes from a brief time in 2014.
An armored car/LRV with fairly basic shading:

Two vehicles made using a method explained by another member involving tracing screenshots of 3d models that were scaled to the appropriate size. I may try and do the same with Wargame Red Dragon Screenshots.

Leopard 1 is much more of a WIP:

So was this tank, a T84 Maybe?

Very early edit of someone else's T55 Sprite, adding Armor similar to that of a T55AMV:

OT-64 Made by Tracing a blueprint, probably from June 2013(!)
But what I spent most of my time on was creating battle scenes.

Something I saw other people doing: Sprites invading the homepage. Date is obvious.

My Best scene.

Exanple 3
Basic edits were made to this oneto give the impression of combat in a nightime downpour.

Examples of Sprite Wars comics can be provided if you're interested.

It looks like I can give you an example of what I'm aiming for sooner than I was expecting. Here is a BTR-60 Sprite in Metal Slug scale (or near enough, the proportions are very cartoonish) resized to 200% for better visibility. Made by tracing an old screenshot in Sketchup. The Machine gun in the turret was from an old sheet of T-80 tanks from...2008? Here is the sheet in question. We count it as a "free to use" set anyway.

Now that I've recovered my enthusiasm for Spriting, it's time for another update. Back in June I had an idea for a series of interconnected battlescenes set within a simple spinoff of the Sprite Wars timeline. It involves an ANZAC-type faction with an occupation force based out of Timor encountering an unidentified enemy:

Early idea for the world
The basic concept of the setting was that it starts off some time after a major war that put an end to a bloody global occupation of Earth (the original story is described here, broad strokes are retained at most to have more creative liberty) in a period of limited rebuilding mixed with large-scale anarchy. Major factions are still attempting to reassert themselves, most national governments are a distant memory, and large-scale war is low on everyone's priorities. Why? Because in my mind, there can only be so many epic sagas of multiverse-affecting conflicts before such large stakes just get boring. Far better to scale events down and build upon more compact stories. Additionally, this isn't a bunch of different people countering each others' moves in comic form, this is one person's vision. Massive campaigns don't have a primacy here.
There was a Sprite Wars Campaign with the premise of political intrigue and low-intensity conflicts instead of fighting. It was Grand Campaign Season 4: Regenesis. The story line managed to be interesting, but I'm afraid it ended on a multi-faceted cliffhanger of sorts involving an instance of renewed fighting and [indescribably confusing and gap-filled lore that produced a new round of drama every year goes here]. It' a long story.
My low-effort world map draft I threw together for fun is also available:

I'll paste the descriptions I wrote in Discord:
Here it is, the balkanized North America map. The only safe areas are the Western Union (Bright Red, actual Democracy), the Capitol Preservation Territory (Light blue around Northern Virginia, supposedly the real successors to the old government), and Mexico. Everywhere else is warlords, each color denotes different zones rather than true factions:
Canada:
Sky Blue=Vancouver warlords
Dark Red=Canadian warlords
Dark Blue=Quebec Junta (occupying Newfoundland)
Tan=Toronto warlords
USA:
Bright orange=New England warlords (occupying NB+NS)
Purple=New York state emergency government
Bone white=Great Lakes warlords
Dark red in USA=Appalachian warlords
Grey=Southern defense alliance (totally not CSA)
White=Texas
Light green=Southwestern warlords
Green=Metro warlords
Deep ochre=flyover country warlords
Dark blue=Rocky mountain warlords
Dark green=Sierra Nevada warlords
Indigo=Cascade range warlords
Black=Midwest warlords
Here's the far east. Will I have a story for every faction? No. But I favor in-depth backstories and settings.
Dark Green=Vladivostok directorate (the ones sending people to Timor)
Northern Japan=Japanese republic (allied with Australia, in the same alliance as the West Coast)
Hot pink Japan=Japanese Empire (Imperial Japan Larpers)
Light green in the center of Mongolia=Tsagaan Khas (Mongolian Neo-Nazis. Yes, they're real. Surrounded by 3 other Mongolian warlords)
Pale yellow=Manchurian empire
Orange=Republic of China (actually not a republic)
Light grey=Alibaba, Dark Gray=Huacent conglomerate (Corporate states)
Light Purple=Chongqing Social Republic (Nazbol gang)
Light Green=Xining free state
Light maroon in right half of Hubei=Wuhan people's republic
Maroon in Yunnan=Chinese people's Republic
Light pink near ROC=Chinese socialist republic
Cyan=Hubei clique
Yellow=Shaanxi clique
Dark blue=Shanxi socialist republic
Pale green=Nanning Clique
Light brown=Guangxi clique
Really dark colors=Warlords from Xinjiang, other parts of China divided loosely by region.
I've also gotten to work making minor edits of the Halo Sprites that are available. My motivation came from seeing the Sprite sheets of a faction known as the Titan Empire. I keep using this comparison, but they're essentially a Borg/Strogg Cybernetic AI baddies faction. Seeing that the old Sprite sheets were using outdated Covenant Sprites from at least 2008, I tried my hand at editing some of the newer Covenant Sprites to fit the color scheme of black armor, discolored skin, and green highlights. The original sprite sheets are on discord and will remain there. As an example of how they looked, here's a battle scene I made in 2014.
One of the edited sheets:

For reference, check A compilation sheet depicting the most recent Covenant Sprites made by Rayg and edits made by others.

Lastly, here's my all but complete BTR60 variants sheet:

My original world setting will hopefully receive an update as well as I try to make the continents look less like scrambled Eurasia and America.

I made a new combat scene:

More importantly, my opening comic was completed.

This is heavily inspired by the original Sprite Wars lore from 2004, just with specific participants removed to keep things vague. Also had the original good guys alliance dissolve itself due to losses and fatigue here as an explanation for how the world is mostly a blank slate.
What's that blob off the coast of Indonesia? That's Pangea, one of the new continents added as part of Sprite Wars lore. I added it to my remade map along with a few other bits from the old Sprite wars maps. New Gabriel and Mauritius as seen there are my own vision of them, given that they're just Papua and Borneo renamed in the original maps.
