Long Beach mandated a $4 an hour increase as hazard pay for grocery store workers and Kroger's responded by shutting two stores down so far.

I'm putting this in Politics because, given the furor about a national 15/hr minimum wage, there's no way this won't intersect politically. According to the sources in-article, a $4 increase is 28%. That would mean they were averaging about 14/hr already and it would increase to 18/hr so not quite relevant to the national debate on a 15/hr minimum wage but still pointing to how wage increases can close low profit operations down.

The problem isn't how much we make its the cost of living the reason why the cost of living is so high here in california is because its a bitch to get housing built, because of years of over regulation on all the things and taxes that are getting ever higher to pay for services that for the most part dont end up in the hands of the people who need it.

Its not just over burcracitzation that causes that problem by the way there is a huge embezzelment problem here in cali, when I worked in historical research we had more then one person get caught stealing from the till some times millions of dollars and this was a smaller school. There have been incidents like that at community college.

And its an open secret that the funding thats supposed to go to the homeless gets embezzeled like crazy into peoples personal pockets. If the media didnt give the democrats a free pass a whole lot of people would be in jail right now.

That's a theme across all departments of government federal, state, and municipal. There is enough money in the pipes to get more than everything both we and the Democrats want done, but corruption, graft, and waste burns up more and more of it with every passing year.
