Well in what is now known as the year AD 525 Dionysius Exiguus devised the calendar based on the birth year of christ as year one with all subsequent dates afterwards counting sequentially upwards, called Anno domini, or year of our lord. Several hundred years later it was widely popular throughout the western world, but would not see near universal adoption until 1582 with Pope Gregory XIII by papal decree with some modifications for the now well known leap year phenomenon, thereafter known as the Gregorian calendar. It was then spread by Catholic nations throughout their colonial holdings, adopted near universally by Protestants as well, until by the 20th century with globalization it was adopted throughout the world for standardization reasons. As it has been 2019 years since the set birth date of christ, the year is known as 2019 throughout the world.

But its stupid!

I mean fucking greenland is apparently the US next expansion option even though Denmark can't sell it, Ukraine elected a comedian, Brexit's busy collapsing in a heap and the US almost went to war with Iran but then Iran dared them to do it or something and they backed off.

At least 2018 made vague sense.

At this point, the evangelicals aren't under any delusions about his character. What they care about is that he delivers his promises to them and the other party is repulsive to them. In this case, they would rather there be an American President who blasphemes than an American President who would harm Israel.

Note: I am unable to read the article due to it being behind a paywall. Can you post an alternative link?

I kind of prefer transactional politics over a cult of personality.

After all poltics makes for a really crappy religion.

But that's stupid, if Israel is a settler state, it can theoretically ship in more Jews to repopulate the place. Meanwhile Iran would be gobbled up by hostile Salafis and if shit gets really bad displaced Muslims from India. No one's that suicidal.

Dude... seriously? The people who live there now do not want to be nuked. "Oh don't worry, if you all die we can replace you" is not going to sell there.
And would anyone in their right mind want to go and live in a country that openly treated its population like that?

I think the point he’s trying to make is that it doesn’t make any sense from the point of view of the Iranian government.

Its very weird to think that Iran is (ever so slightly) the more rational actor in the current middle east. Well, their government is at any rate. The Guard, not so much.
