Just a rumor for now picked up by a few random news outlets that Trigun the weird whimsical Wild West SciFi Adventures following the Protagonist Vash the Stampede, might be getting some new content.

Well, the first anime adaptation did kinda butcher the source material; maybe they're looking to emulate Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood's success at at producing something that's more faithful to the original?

Oh interesting.

I never read the manga myself (and read very little manga in general) and TriGun is one of the very few Anime I have seen a considerable amount of. I think I've seen the first two seasons or whatever and found it generally enjoyable and fun to watch.

So this has me somewhat intrigued, more dependent on what platform it maybe released on. I think it's rumored to be Crunchyroll or whatever.

Trigun is an odd choice. Trigun hasn't been a big name in anime for a long time. There isn't much brand recognition going for it now. Perhaps the success of the Mandalorian has caused companies to seek out their own space western.

If Trigun was adapted into live action by a Western company (ie Netflix), I'd imagine that the Christianic overtones would be surely washed out... or perverted.

In fairness to the original Fullmetal, it was in production while the manga was still being written. Eventually it reached a point where it would’ve had to either go on hiatus or continue the story without the manga.

Obviously, they went with the latter. Honestly speaking, there are some elements of the original that I really like. I found most of the homunculus to be more interesting characters overall, and I feel like the big bad had a little more personality. The Rose subplot was also somewhat interesting.

As to Trigun, it’s been years since I watched the anime and I’ve never read the manga. I’m going to have to do a binge now, to refresh my memories of it.

Considering the absolute state of entertainment lately, I'm not very optimistic. But, then again, this is being produced by the Japanese, who have been remarkably resilient against wokeness worming it’s way into manga and anime.

So, I guess put me down as cautious but hopeful?

The same is true of Trigun; the anime only covers the first three volumes out of what would eventually become a seventeen volume series.

My understanding(never read the manga), is that the anime and the manga stories diverge.

I hope they're just going to give it the same treatment as Hellsing and Fullmetal Alchemist, which is to say take another run at it in order to stick closer to the manga source material. I have a feeling that a lot of fans of the anime will be disappointed, though, as the manga is quite a bit different from the anime in both story and tone. Actually a lot of the criticism I've seen of the anime is that people liked the light-hearted episodic nature of the early episodes and didn't like it when the series got more serious and started to follow a more definite storyline.

I've only ever read summaries, but from reading them it honestly feels like the manga is almost a completely different story than the anime. One too depressing and up its own ass regarding the main character's terminal pacifism schtick (far more so than even the anime, where I already found it to be pretty annoying) for me to ever want to read.

3D animation? Shit. :cautious:

It really depends. Stuff like Apppleseed pulled it off and major movies generally do a good job with it.

I am worried snice most anime are done on the cheap becasue studios do not have the budget to do 3D animation justice. Instead you get Disneykids level like Fireman Bob.

On the other hand Trigun is a big enough name it will likely get more funding then random anime clone Sheild Hero or whatever.

Okay sooooo... this isn't Trigun. It's just not. The animation is impressive, but... none of the characters look like themselves. Vash is a kid with a giant robot arm, Meryl Stryfe looks kinda like Miyata from Hajime no Ippo wearing lipstick, and Wolfwood is that cat mage guy from Fernanda Dias' animations on Youtube:

Also, Meryl is apparently a reporter when she first meets Vash in this version, and Milly Thompson just plain isn't there. She's been replaced by some guy called "Roberto de Niro".

All in all? Turns out it was neither a new adaption of the manga, nor a sequel to it or the 1998 anime; it's a "reimagining" of the original work that barely resembles it.

Ya I may watch a couple of episodes just to see what they did but overall I can not help but think this is just an anime version of I Robot. Take the name to get a built in audience for a prewritten script.

Usually you don't see this sort of thing in anime; the industry tends to have a thing about being true to the source material. You'd be far more likely to see something like this done in live action.

True but I think you may see more of it as anime continues to become more main streamed. From the 90's with Suncoast and Adult Swim being the only options to Crunchyroll and anime on every streaming service.

While this has been great for fans not having to get fansubs from random sites it also has lead to anime getting more hollywood influence. While it has not really effected plotlines it has lead to more stuff like not being as true to the source materials or more reimagining like Trigun.
