yes but then again I think all of this is heading to the supreme court and there is more then enough precident where a whole lot of people are going to have a real bad time.

in their heart of hearts they imagine themselves the censor, themselves the man putting victims against the wall, themselves the guard of the camp and themselves as the chairman. The idea that the monster they raise against their enemies coming to devour them as well never crosses their minds.

Also yes the left(who Xi is definitely member of) very much believe they're "on the right side of history". So thing like rights aren't needed or important.
Fascism is thrown around a lot as a buzzword nowadays, often as a smear. It has been reduced to a meaningless slur through sheer overuse. Most of the time, if someone calls someone fascist, their target isn't actually a fascist.
However, the modern PRC meets the classical definition of fascism; that is, a form of state socialism with capitalist management of business, but socialist management of their executives (i.e. rather than direct state control of the means of production, corporations self-manage, but can receive specific instructions from the state as necessary), blended with a form of ethno-nationalism.
Xi Jinping brands himself and the PRC as left-wing and communist, but in reality, the PRC in its modern incarnation is perhaps the most successful fascist government in existence.

Facism isn't right wing at best it's centerist. Hell you even say it's socialist in your own post. Socialism isn't right wing but tell me more. Fascism is also a left-wing ideology, so Lanmandragon's point stands.
Group identity, forced subordination of the individual to the group, cult of personality around the 'dear leader,' it's basically communism with less tendency to starve its people.

I think from the POV of Lefties, the difference between Socialism/Communism and Fascism is that the latter has "nationalism" or "my country first" instead of "my fellow workers first"
And Fascism's got no "redemption" or "conversion" for people who aren't of that nationality, religion or ethnicity
Also, Fascism "makes use of the Free Market" or uses "capitalism" in a more-or-less sense of "THE FREE MARKET WILL LEAD TO CORPORATISM & MEGACORPORATIONS TAKING OVER!!!!" with the government allying itself with those megacorps instead of simply taking them over entirely

I think it is accurate to call modem China fascist, it is in many ways. That doesn’t make it right wing though. You absolutely can have left wing fascism, in fact most fascism I believe is left leaning. Actually, some of the movers and shakers of the far left are more like fascists than traditional communists. A lot of big businesses - Hollywood, banking, internet/tech companies, mainstream media, universities - these are far left businesses that collude with the government to further their far left ideology as well as to improve their own bottom lines. A lot of left wing censorship actually happens along these lines, in a way which is very much fascist in behavior with ideologically left motivations.

You'd think that someone who cries about landowners and capitalists would be overjoyed about something now being free to be read by all. But nope.
