This is not a political thread. This is a thread about everyday things you encounter in life. Be it at your job or out in town. The things that don't make any sense but they are put forth anyway by individuals in charge. I will start it off.
The Store policy of carding everyone for alcohol. At first it seems like a good idea. But how some stores do it is quite frankly stupid. When you have a 70 year old woman trying to buy a bottle of beer and the Cashier who is not even old enough to drink asks for ID because she has to ask everyone. You know your policy is bullshit.
I have a good response to carding. Regardless of the sex of the till jockey I just reply with a saucy smile and a wink, "I'm perfectly legal, I can assure you."
Thread tax:
People who cannot follow painfully simple instructions or can't fathom you knowing something well enough that the instructions you're providing them don't require you to be present to know they will be accurate or correct 99% of the time.
I've added you to the AD groups for <certain software>. Please allow the system several hours for it to be available to download from the Company App Installer (To get to the Company App Installer, click Start, type in company a, strike enter).
I will follow up with you tomorrow to confirm you can download and use <certain software>.
...One day later...
Hello, I am following up to confirm if <certain software> installed for you without any issues.
I followed your instructions to find the software center but I got stuck.
Oh? At which point?
I've put in software a into the Start but I'm not sure if I should press enter.
Are there other options?
No, just Company App Installer.
...A brief pause later...
You can click on the software center to launch it too?
How do you know it's the right Company App Installer?
...A brief pause later...
It's the only option there right?
Yes, but how did you know it would be the right option?
...A brief pause later...
It's company specific, it wouldn't be on a different company's computer.
Oh, okay. It's opened and the software is installing.
While not verbatim, this is something I get frequently. The most common is when I tell someone to type in Bitlocker. There's usually three or four options but I've always seen the Manage Bitlocker be the first search return and even when I say, "If Manage Bitlocker is the highlighted option, strike enter," I always, absolutely always get them reciting all of the options with 'Manage Bitlocker' being the first one. Yes, I know it's the first one and it's highlighted, that's why I already said strike enter.
Everything since XP has been, in my view.
I have to strongly disagree. Win7 was absolutely fantastic. It ran stable (I ran it for almost two years straight without rebooting once), driver crashes were near non-existent. I remember changing Crysis from windowed mode with low graphical settings to full screen with mid to high settings, my computer hanging, the nVidia driver crashing, Windows then telling me it had successfully reloaded the drivers and everything worked fine after.
