We are invoking a State of Emergency to manage the response to the election. The regular process of moderation is suspended, and the owners and Admins will hand out summary temp bans to cool people off as required, and lock threads at their discretion.

Can we not with the fun police attitude and rampant attempts to control and direct the mood and tone of the forum and it's conversations like a bunch of killjoys? Fuck's sake feels like this place is turning into fucking reddit with all the tone policing and pearl clutching over shitposting and joking, with mods and admins going around policing and directing conversations to match what they want them to be instead of what they actually are.

I just got a 3 day ban from politics for a game end joke towards neocons. You people are getting way way too fucking sensitive about this shit. Get that massive stick out of your asses and let people talk freely.

But would letting people talk freely elevate the discussion? That’s what we really need to be concerned about!

In the rules, since the day the forum was created:

The purpose of this website and forum is to promote the exchange of ideas in a civil manner, upholding the value of freedom of speech. In order to fulfill this purpose certain exchanges between users which are unproductive are prohibited. In addition, material very likely to provoke such exchanges may not be posted on the boards.

The Truth gets to shitpost his anti-Trump unproductive garbage while insulting forum members freely and openly, but insulting public figures who will never even become aware of this website is a suspension worthy infraction.

Who gets to decide which exchanges are worthy or not? Maybe my joke made someone exhale a little bit of air. I think that is worthy something.

Unless I'm mistaken, "Game end" is a slang for killing or dying, and it was certainly taken that way.

In short, it was seen as you encouraging people to commit suicide. A rule 1e violation.

And let's be frank, this isn't about talking freely, it's about letting you and others rant and scream and carry on, and I think this shows you, at the very least, didn't take the rules seriously at all when you started posting here. Well, now you will.

The Truth, who was given a 1-month temp ban from the entire forum, the harshest punishment issued today by far, in fact, harsher than all the other punishments combined?

Did he get that ban now? Cause he was going on and on on the thread for a while. If so at least that was solved.

Poor politician in DC who isn't even aware sites like this exist, I am sure he was devastated by me telling him to commit neck rope in between clapping emojis. How can he ever recover.

If this was a forum mumber, even The Truth, I could see this making sense. As it stands it's a silly rule meant to stop edgy jokes and trying to tone police the forum. As it stand it just looks like too much of the old civility thing. Leftist get away with wishing death on people all the time, but God forbid right wingers joke about commiting neck rope.

That's not why the rule exists...

If a leftist was on this site wishing someone committed suicide they'd get the same hit, harder if they were known to troll or didn't have a positive record.

But really, this gets to the gist of it, doesn't it? You don't want rules that stand in the way of you getting to spout whatever shit you please. So you demand we suspend those rules and employ the good old tu quoque line. "They do it too!" "They do worse!"

They can do as they please. This is how the site was meant to be run. If it hasn't been until now, it's because the rules being broken has gone unnoticed (and unreported), not from a sudden shift in how we enforce them.

You are damn right I wanna speak my mind freely, I am not allowed to do that mostly anywhere else. Every forum and website I go to I get eventually kicked out for what eventually comes down as "wrong think", be it AH, SB, Reddit or others. I have already lost that and I refuse to lose more.

It's just so fucking tiresome at this point. When the fuck did people's skin get so thin? Why must there be so many rules and sub rules and etiquette and civility enforcement and shit? I wanna joke and talk my mind and be edgy and just have a decent time. But no. We must be civil! We must contribute to the discussion! You can't make that joke sub paragtaph 3 section B of the rules says so! And that is how a attempt to unwind some pressure from a highly stressful election just led to more stress.

I guess I should just give up on the idea of the web as it used to be. Accept it is gone and never coming back. No fun allowed.

I was posting on USENET from circa 1997 or 1998 and there was no moderation at all, but a certain code of conduct and a certain sense of camraderie prevailed. There's something harsh in the modern freedom, with the "memes", it looks the same but it has a more brutal edge. Unfortunately, some kind of regulation is required because, one, I want us to be a community where we get along with each other, and two, I just have to run this like a business, because the days of old free USENET are simply gone.
