Yes that's right... finally a thread to discuss something we should all have strong opinions about... Spacebattles.
Personally, I feel that there is a shocking dearth of Spacebattles and has been since... forever. Oftentimes, perhaps for budget... perhaps not... even in space opera settings, truly great and cinematic space battles are often mucked up by intersplicing scenes of interpersonal character drama (otherwise known as stern looking face shots, thanks nBSG), teddy bears running amongst the trees, focusing on only one ship, or otherwise ruining what could be great space based equivalent of an epic war scene with some super lame plot device or other lame exposition.
What do you think makes a Space Battle great? What scenes do you think could've made great Space battles but were ruined or simply fell short for one reason or another?
And of course what is your favorite Spacebattle besides the one in Return of the Jedi?
And if so, why is said spacebattle so good that it can still be considered second best to the Battle of Endor?
