Pretty sure that was the intention all along. Easier to sell more product when the product doesn't last as long. It's like cheapshit consumer electronics, making it quality decreases the purchases per decade.

For the cOnSpIrAcY tHeOriSts, it might even have been part of the plan to make healthy kids hungry and unhappy during school hours, so the kleptocracy could triple dip by selling Ritalin and destroying the future of millions of middle class males.
Ehh, this is getting into conspiracy levels I'd not really buy into. Cereal as a breakfast product goes back a long time. for instance, Corn Flakes, which I think is the oldest breakfast cereal, dates back to 1894, long before we really had any knowledge of nutrition like we did now, and also a long LONG time before Ritalin or even the modern schools system was a thing. Ritalin wasn't even discovered until 1944 and wasn't given to school children until the 1960s.

Looking over the history of breakfast cereals, if we include hot cereals we're going all the way back to the native Americans and grits for breakfast, which means we don't actually know when they were first eaten, only when European settlers first encountered them.

So yeah, this I think falls into one of those happenstance thing, rather than any actual conspiracy.

Actually breakfast cereal was invented by John Harvey Kellogg, a prominent member and son to the founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, to help curb the sex drives of patients at the Battle Creek Sanitarium. No, I am not kidding; the history behind the origins of what we know of today as breakfast cereal is equal parts fascinating, and disturbing.

Anyone who's read enough Charles Dickens knows about this sort of thing. In Oliver Twist, the evil guy who runs a child labour house openly tells someone else that he feeds the children gruel in order to keep them weak and submissive, and that children will get independent-minded and rebellious if they are allowed to eat meat.

The malfeasance was not in the creation of cereals, but in the creation of the FDA "food pyramid" that prompted the post about cereals. My post did not make this clear.

Back to the topic - you know what? Here in South Africa even we are seeing some shelves empty. Some products just aren't available from the suppliers - surprising, because they are foodstuffs that I thought were produced locally.

Really wished people and governments didn't have to learn shit the hard way but you know they do.

We could have prevented all of this pain by simply having an honest understanding of history but instead we have to go through this shit again because some assholes think their utopian bullshit will work this time.

The Biden admin is being forced ask corporations to save Christmas.

Key Quotes:
"Walmart said it would “increase its use of night-time hours significantly and projects they could increase throughput by as much as 50 percent over the next several weeks.”"

"UPS said it would commit to use 24/7 operations “and enhanced data sharing with the ports” to move more containers out of ports"

Fedex said, “work to combine an increase in nighttime hours with changes to trucking and rail use to increase the volume of containers it will move from the ports.”

White House officials said, "Additionally, the Port of Los Angeles will move to 24/7 service, coming after the Port of Long Beach began similar operations several weeks ago."

From the article, "Lower-than-expected Christmas sales could hurt U.S. companies and pose a political risk for Biden."

Liberals: Our leaders need to save us!
Liberal Leaders: We need Walmart, UPS, and FedEx to save us.
Walmart, UPS, and FedEx: All workers get mandatory overtime and overnight hours. No vacations. No Holidays.
Workers: Fuck.

Remeber, Walmart is no longer 24/7 so they are having to adjust. If they remained 24/7 it wouldn't be that bad

Really, those things won't fix what's happening.

CA banned trucks older than 2011 from handling freight in ports. I've seen footage from cameras on the Long Beach port where none of the cranes are moving in an area(loading/unloading) and none of the trucks in line are moving. I have no idea why.

If we can't get the goods off the boats (thanks union longshoremen), and we can't get the goods out of the port then we're sure as heck not gonna get them in the walmart/cvs/fedex/whatever to your door.

So in other words the solution might be to start making stuff again

It's all linked.

It's about being practical. It's about Green bullshit. It's about NIMBY'ism.

Classic example. In Australia, right now, there's a shortage of timber, even for the most basic usages. There's people ringing the timber yards who specialize in rare and exotic timbers for Pine, common structural Pine, because nobody has it.

Australia. The Continent. Does not have enough basic timber. Massive forests. Back in the 1920's, to the 1960's, had the best forest management on the planet, to the point where people flew in to see what we did.

The Greens, and all sorts of inner city folk, who knew nothing about nature, broke that. Because cutting down trees was bad.

Never mind that the only other options are rip metal from the earth, and we can't have that! Or plastics, gee, how Green can you get!

To boil it down, we're held back by Govenment bullshit, in a thousand different ways. If you want to make stuff, you need a factory, and right now, that requires permission, from multiple Gov agencies. How long will that take? What will it cost? What are the limits for, say, sound? Or carbon? Who makes the machines you need? Can you import them? Will the Gov allow it at all?

Three quarters of our problems with starting manufacturing, are Gov. And, even with prices going through the roof, the bureaucrats aren't going to bend, because they can't see their role in all this. Also, the very reason they have a job, is to stop anybody doing this kind of thing.

I could go on, but, really, you guy should understand. When the COVID shutdown hit, a bunch of companies went under, and a few did really, really well. You know who had bugger all change? The bureaucrats. They just kept going, even got a pay rise or two.

Edit: Holy shit. I didn't realise I was writing that much. Well, I guess it just goes to show, this is something I care about. Still..... Holy shit about sums it up.

I'd add to this, entrenched business interests and regulatory capture also play a major role. The big companies paying out the big campaign contributions do not want more competition, the big importers and shipping companies do not want their business to go down because goods are being produced at home instead.

Maybe America's inane rates of obesity will go down.
The obesity epidemic is as much hogwash as Global Warming is. If people haven't figured it out by now. Anytime the Media and the Elites call something a dire epidemic. It is not and you are being lied to.

Now on the subject at hand. I am sitting on 6 months worth of dry food and will be adding to that number in the next week or two. My priority right now is Toiletries.

I don't know the whole fat pride thing makes me think its gotten to be enough of an actual problem that they reflexively switched to be for it. You know for the lols.

As in people can probably trust it is more likely a real problem now because they are for it. Honeslty kinda odd how often that aligns with you westerners.

Though really, being 5'5 and weighing 550 pounds probably isn't a good sign for your life expectancy no matter what the social implications or opinions are.

All true.

But, if there's a law, they're not allowed to make "Only Apple Zone" as the law, so it's got to be a little more indirect than that. That means it'll hit vastly more potential companies. And, once it's in place, even if Apple later decides it's no longer useful, it doesn't vanish.

It's a mess.

Um we have Trans Pride as a thing in the media a lot and that is a tiny fraction of the Population. Don't take a Vocal Minority as something being widespread. The Media is pushing an agenda. And if you have a few thousand people out of over 300 Million doing the Fat Pride thing. That is still just a fringe group.

But back to empty store shelves. My suggestion to everyone is to buy Lentils. They are a great food and easy to cook. That along with a bag of Flour and Powered Milk. Good staples to have.
