The shelves are getting empty

Apparently the one hitting my neck of the woods really bad is nobody getting in hot sauce. Or, at least, not three of the brands I'd like. Checked four different stores today in a buckle-down moment-of-madness because I've been waiting for weeks for my regular shopping joint to get it in...Still no luck. Regular Tapatio, Cholula or Red Hot may as well not exist...There are the spin-off versions from those (though not many of them) and other options as yet if I wanted those, but it's one that annoys me greatly simply for its petty and everyday nature.

More concerning for stores in my area--though one I only checked out of curiosity because I do have a drawer-full--was sold-out sections at every place I visited in the 'feminine hygiene' sections. Never completely, so someone could get what they needed in a pinch, but specific brands (or sales) were unavailable.

Finally, on more of a petty note...Powerade I used to be able to get .69 cents for, like, a 32 oz or something. The 32 oz turned into a 28 or 26, then it popped up to .79 cents, and now it's been a month or so and it's been on 'special pricing' at 10/$10.

That's totally believable and so totally housecat. Fluffy is almost 20yrs old, weighs 7lbs dripping wet, and our neighbour's malemute is terrified of her despite being at least 15 times her size. "the Terrible" is a well earned honorific.
Old, experienced cats are very nasty opponents for dogs(and other lifeforms in general - my granpa's cat used to get into fights with cocks - and win, in spite of the birds' nasty talons), because they go for the eyes and snout right from the beginning.

The common house cat is one of the most effective preditors out there

Have you considered getting some reusable pantyliners just in case? Wife discovered those and now we have a dresser drawer full of artsy ones.

Cutting the amount per package is one of the first things companies do if they think no one will notice. Cereal is notorious for doing this.

New wrinkle in the supply chain.

Frieghter on fire of the Victoria, B.C., and combustible cargo containers are now floating in the Juan de Fuca Straight.

The chemical formula of potassium amyl xanthate: CH3((CH2)4)OCS2K.

Those two sulphur atoms can attach themselves to almost anything oxygen can and that potassium atom can set water on fire if it gets loose.

The first thing the Bolsheviks did was demonize the "hoarders". Great leap forward, too. You know, farmers that kept one bushel of grain to plant the next spring.

Next they were burning their furniture to produce crap metal in their barren fields.

No doubt theyll continue to send food/products overseas while we get limits.

100% appropriate reaction.
It's gotten so bad I actually internet-searched and found out Tapatio will ship 10 bottles or 32 oz. jars at a time in regular mail to private residences. Or even 4 gallon jugs...And much as I'm a cheapskate who hates the idea of shelling out a bit extra for shipping...I've been tempted to the point of probably-going to order it unless I get lucky in the next day or two.

That way even if the entire supply chain collapses and I end up cooking stone soup...I will have delicious hot sauce to add into it and the friendly man-with-the-hat on the logo to listen to my woes!

I'm a fan of spice myself, and my supply has been getting low, and as it happens, Tapatio and Cholula are my favorite brands. I actually haven't been paying attention to what's on the shelves here locally because I've been putting it off since I haven't been making much chili or burritos over summer, but now that the weather is turning cold...

Critical Update:
PrinCZess pending 'pocalypse-o-sauce prevented! Taste has prevailed in its prevailing struggle against pablum!
Apparently the secret was...Walgreens. At least for two bottles of Cholula...And ya'all know I panic-bought and hoarded those bottles for my exclusive use.
Overpaid, of course. And will still probably end up bulk-ordering a bunch. But tacos sure tasted better with hot sauce available.

In somewhat more serious news related to the supply chain issues (here in the states, at least)
Twitter-commentary broke out of slapfights over vidya games, the new Dune movie, and breasts v. ass v. feet 'debate' for one moment and seems to have inspired some vaguely, potentially-beneficial action on local government's part.
The City of Long Beach, California, issued a statement on Friday announcing it will temporarily permit additional container stacking to free up space and alleviate port congestion.
The announcement came shortly after Ryan Peterson, CEO of the freight logistics company Flexport, took to Twitter to share a similar recommendation after detailing his observations from a three-hour boat tour of the overloaded complex in Long Beach.

Behold! The one (possibly) good thing Twitter has done.

Yeah, but it's on the wrong side of the Panama Canal.
If the delays are serious enough that it becomes economical to sail from Shanghai through the Suez... God help us all.
Yeah, Eastern ports are great for Europe and Africa, but for all the Pacific trade you need to go Panama, Suez, or around a Cape/Horn the long way. The canals are also not free and they take time to get through. Though at this point if I were setting out from China heading for Florida would make sense to get to the US market considering the 100 container ships already waiting out here in Southern California.

Mexican ports to a rail solution north to the US could be an answer if Mexico was less, well, Mexico.

Look, it is probably better then keeping them anchored off the coast of Cali

No, then they are vunerable to weather and accidents, like the container ship that is/was on fire and lost containers during the bomb cyclone a few days ago, of the coast of Vancouver in Puget Sound.

It would probably take about a week to get ships from LA to the Florida/Gulf Coast ports, and if a ship is waiting longer than a week to unload, better to just get it to another port and get the cargo off.

Of course that would cost fuel and canal transit fees, so I doubt may tightfisted shipping companies will do it.

Instead if sending your ship to sit there for a long fucking time, you could sent it from the port of exit, to Panama, then to the east coast (Southern)
