A point of amusement: Louisiana and Florida are the only states that have their own individual French consulates, as opposed to consulates that cover a multi-state district.

Bizarrely enough, California contains both of the French Consulates for the entire West Coast; one is in Los Angeles, and the other is in San Francisco. However, these are still not individual state consulates; the San Francisco consulate's zone of responsibility stretches from northern California all the way up through Washington and all the way east to Wyoming plus Alaska and Hawaii, while the Los Angeles consulate's zone is southern California east to Colorado and New Mexico.

France is weirdly stingy about consulates. Sweden, a far smaller country with a far smaller demographic representation in the United States, has thirty-one consulates in America to France's nine.

BTW, said Sweden has two consulates in Texas (Dallas and Houston), as well as one in Seattle.

Or maybe France is a tightwad, and they don't want to spend more $$$$ on foreign embassies.

Basically they're in one of the budget-crunching numbers in terms of how many Consulates to open in the US.
