Bush's name still carries a lot of weight in TX, but I kinda doubt that's going to go very far after the look we've had at the Bush 'legacy', especially carrying a "D" by it.

Hell, a lot of the Democrats are gonna go "Hell no!" just because he's a Bush!
I should note two-time loser Mike Collier (D) is running for Lieutenant Governor again in 2022 (he narrowly lost to Patrick in 2018 & got crushed in his bid for Comptroller of Public Accounts in 2014).

@Cherico @The Whispering Monk @f1onagher Texas Tribune reporting on the proposed redistricting maps which reduce Latino & African American districts in the TX State Legislature.

The GOP-controlled TX State Legislature also upped the ante by pushing proposed congressional map which could see the end of political careers of US Reps. Al Green (D-TX 9th), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX 18th) & maybe Sylvia Garcia (D-TX 29th).

Here is the Texas Tribune article in question.
Something tells me Green will get Chris Bell'd.

State Senator Borris Miles (D-Houston) blasted the Redistricting maps calling them discriminatory & denying minorities the opportunities to elect legislators who reflect their communities.
If he was one of the congress critters that ran away to DC then he has no leg to stand on when protesting for federalism.

As for the redistricting I'm going to admit, a number of the districts in Dallas and Houston are starting to look a little silly, but otherwise the rest of the state looks fine. The important line in the article is that 95% of Texas' population growth came from non-white demographics meaning that you couldn't swing a dead cat and not "discriminate" against a minority.

On the surface its a blatant Republican power grab, but there's important data that I'm missing about actual population weight. As it is the redistricting actually increases the number of heavily democratic districts from 40 to 46 while shrinking Republican strongholds from 50 to 46 while increasing the nominal number of Republican distracts from 76 to 86.

The means test for this comes next year. If republicans only perform in their newly cut out districts then this is clearly a partisan play. If they get more or less then in my mind it works out fine. Beyond that I struggle to sympathize with Democrats when they get the end of the stick. Its a two-way game and lets not pretend that things would be an iota different if the boots were reversed.

I won't miss the three imperiled Democrats:

Lee is a generic progressive carpetbagger from New York and has been in office since '95. She should have been shuffled out a decade ago just due to age if nothing else.

Green is a craven, bite biting little asshole that, shock of shocks, is also a carpetbagger, from New Orleans this time. He pulled a Californian and moved to Texas to start an economic career but only worked for four years before going into politics. I'm sure he was real sincere about that job and wasn't just laundering his bona fides. He's been a representative since 2005 and was the JoP for Harris county for 26 years before that. I think 43 years in politics is enough and he should fuck off and enjoy his hard earned Chinese money.

Garcia meanwhile is a never-was who is mercifully actually from Texas. Like the others she's a lifelong politician, though I'll give her props for doing it the hard way and working her way up through the municipal and county court systems.

All of them have platforms that wouldn't look out of place in downtown Manhattan save Lee who at least mouths words about border security and immigration reform. So no, they can all fuck off and enjoy the fat stacks of California (and in Green's case Chinese) cash they've been paid to fuck with my home.

Ironic considering Garcia became the first Latina from Houston to win a US House seat in 2018. Surprised they deep-sixed her district by merging with with Crenshaw's.

Garcia was also elected citywide as Houston City Controller in 1997, 1999 & 2001 & then moved to countywide office by getting elected Harris County Commissioner Precinct 2 in 2002 & 2006 before losing in the Tea Party GOP wave in 2010.

She made a comeback by winning a special election to a seat in the TX State Senate (6th District) in 2013 & remained there until her election to Congress in 2018.

On Collin Allred (D-TX 32nd): Seems like he's in the clear & safe to stick around.

If those really are cartel members and traffickers taunting the TX NG at the border...if we want a justifiable war close to home that we can actually win, cleaning out the cartels and CCP infleunce from Mexico in an amp'd up Pershing expedition might fit the bill.

Of course that would require the powers in DC not to profit from the current situation, so the NG troops won't be able to just cap those SOBs.

Do the CCP have a large influence in Mexico? I would have thought further south then them for sure.

Also, if we were to actually go to war with the Cartels, we would basically be fighting the Taliban, but a lot closer to home.

Though, it would be less likely for the people to hate us more then the cartels

BREAKING NEWS: San Antonio Express News reporting Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff (D) announced during his annual State of the County Address that he will NOT seek reelection to 6th full term in 2022.

Any thoughts on this development of Wolff not seeking reelection & the ramifications going forward ?
