this is actually true. Its a key element to feminised thinking. There were studies that show that when men play with superhero action figures, the remain true to the lore...the boy plays with batman as if he's batman. But women take batman and make it into herself. This is the reason for so-called "representation" and the reason women get bothered about hot female characters. The female mind sees the character as literal competition because she projects herself into the story.

This is why current year franchises are in such trouble..they are being written by women or feminised thinkers who turn the franchise into wish fulfillment where they must insert themselves into the heroic roles.
Let's also not forget how they're also physically changing characters into looking like them, too.

For example, the FemNazi who wrote a Spiderman comic? Mary Jane in it looked exactly like her, right down to the face. Given that the FemNazi was a 4/10 overweight woman at best and MJ is... well, MJ, it looked fucking odd.

Also, "I'm Not Starfire", which was basically a self-insert and wish fulfillment on the part of the author. I get the feeling that the author was the chunky, gothic lesbian stereotype in high school who had the hots for the popular cheerleader, but obviously the cheerleader wasn't gay nor interested in her, which is why Starfire's "daughter" in it obviously had her crush reciprocated by the pretty blonde cheerleader. cough

And then there's the character designs in video games which are written by or directed by women. I don't mean "bikini armour fanservice" sort of things being taken to pasture, I mean average women characters or characters that were previously attractive or normal-looking in older series instalments now looking like deformed goblins or half-human creature folk.

I get the feeling jealousy or envy is a main motivator.

I remember an amusing compilation of Starfire being perfectly in-character in the background in the middle of the obscenely blatant wish fulfilment. Serious "New Guy" energy, some of the blatant mommy issue venting just completely falls flat because the mom is in fact a decent portrayal of Starfire.

Why can't people just write characters they'd maybe like to hang out with or be friends with, sure it can be based off of a real person or people, but I don't get the idea that every main character has to be a self-insert. Yeah it's fine to put a character in the story that's based off you somewhat but why does it always have to be the main character? Like, what good is a main character if they're not surrounded by other characters that are deep and three-dimensional people with their own personalities, honestly I'd say it's more important to base your side characters off of reality than the main character as long as you've got one that actually does things in the story and doesn't just stand around having shit happen to them, especially if you've got a good villain to challenge them with. (Of course it varies wildly depending on the story you're trying to tell)
