Bail out, bankrupcy, and collapse, and the first two require the democrats to go begging to the GOP for help, and they will get concessions.

The money will never reach the police or other people who need it. It will just be pocketed and spent on stuff like that $80 billion bullet train nobody uses. It doesn't even connect LA to San Francisco or Sacramento; you know, the big cities. That made a train that goes to freaking Barstow. YOU CAN DRIVE TO BARSTOW! They paid an artist $100,000 to paint a concept sketch for the train platform! 80.3 billion USD and they only have 20% of the track laid! And this was supposed to be done 7 years ago! So it's going to cost at least $300 billion USD and another 30 years to finish this thing?

Also, earlier today I just experienced the first rolling blackout of this year (because the state can't be bothered to invest money into expanding the powergrid so that everyone can keep their ACs on during the 110F+ summers).

oh that gets worse.

That bullet train? That was demanded by the environmentalists, they bitched and whined and campained for this and then the moment they started actually building it they Screamed it was ruining the enviroment and did everything they could to kill the project.

In any other country if some one had pulled that stunt and blew 80 billion the people who did it would be exiled from politics entirely, or they would be strait up murdered. Those same environmentalists who forced this project to start and then did everything to kill it still have influence.

Can you point to any specific person who was for it on environmental grounds, and then opposed to it for same? Or are you just treating the entire category of people you could call environmentalists as some sort of hive mind, rather than an incredibly broad group of individuals with different beliefs and ideas?

Environmental Impact | Citizens for California High-Speed Rail Accountability (cchsra.org)

A lot of the same people who founded said organization also bitched that highways poluted too much and wanted some thing like rail to take over only to found this organization and slow things to a fucking crawl.

Once again I live here and am a native to this state I know just how stupid our activists can be.

Well, that's a group who are opposed to the way it's being done for environmental reasons but I can't actually find anything linking the people involved to agitating for it for environmental reasons? Their own "about us" makes it seem like they were pretty much uninvolved and ignorant until after the propositions passage.

I get that there's people who argued for it for environmental reasons, and that others are arguing against it for same, but it doesn't seem like they're the same groups beyond all being vaguely "environmentalists"?

There's this little thing known as NIMBY. "Not In My Back Yard".

Something might seem like a great idea right up until the downsides of actually making it happen affects those who supported it, at which point they start to oppose it vehemently.

Uh huh, and it's hypocritical and stupid when it happens. That doesn't really seem like exactly the case here though judging by the complaints from the group linked before. Sounds more like they'd rather it did run through back yards, rather than a cow rendering plant.

That's also not evidence that the same people who pushed for it are the same ones opposing it, rather it would be an explanation for why we might see that. Until we do though, the explanation is superfluous.

Does he still consider himself one?
"I am proud to be a member of the party of Abraham Lincoln, I am proud to be a member of the party of Ronald Reagan." -Arnold Schwarzenegger, 2012

Yeah, he still makes plenty of speeches and does a bit of fundraising and endorsing of candidates.

Politically he doesn't fit perfectly into either party, he tends to be fairly moderate and centrist, and leans more right on fiscal issues and more left on environmental issues. He had a lot of ideas for California and but was basically unable to actually do anything, totally hamstrung by the rest of the state's politicians and their voting system.

He hasn't done much besides endorse candidates since being governor of Cali because there's not much else he can do, as a naturalized citizen he's not eligible for higher office and he served out his term limits in California.

Huh. He sounds like Vernon Jones.
I am surprised a Hollywood actor would be so Republican.
I am in shock. Can he not run for Congressmen?

How did he feel about Trump?

Also, he is apparently a really nice guy

He most likely didn't run for congress because it would be futile. California is insanely gerrymandered and the districts shaped by computer to ensure the current incumbents (mostly Democrat but there's a handful of equally rigged Republican strongholds) cannot lose.

Part of his platform was actually fixing how gerrymandered Cali is but his bill was shot down. That is the other problem, California's voting system is hideously rigged due to limitations on who's allowed to talk about a given issue in political ads, so on major issues the entire state has to vote but only special interest groups are allowed to tell people anything about the bill (and are not limited in what disinformation they can spread).

Schwarzenegger really doesn't like Trump much. They were feuding in the entertainment industry long before they got into politics and have never gotten along.

Schwarzenegger was actually one of the better governors california has had in recent history. The man did try to reach across the isle did try to reform the system but the problem is our legislator is terminally brain dead as in it got so bad he had to lock them in until they got a budget passed bad.

however I think we are now officially past the point where reform is possible, california is going to drive strait into a disaster crash and burn and have to be reborn again.

Its going to suck but we have been very stupid and have to learn things the hard way.
