"Failed design" is a bit harsh. It had a relatively short time in service as the biggest, bestest ship ever, yes. But that's just as likely a symptom of it being from an era of rapid technological changes rather than fault with the design itself (both in and out of universe, amusingly enough).

From that same thread:
Consitution: 2244-2285 (41 years)
Excelsior: 2285-2325 (40 years)
Ambassador: 2325-2357 (32 years)
Galaxy: 2357-2370 (13 years)
Sovereign: 2370-2380 (10 years)
Oddessy: 2380-2410s (30 years and counting)

And as shown by Picard season 2, while the GCS and Sovereign were quickly outdated, they're still in service with the fleet, just longer the latest and greatest designs.

I have gotten into a stupid debate with a Youtuber https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG7vs09yEIMa-1StHV6TmwA
about the Enterprise F now being canon. He says it is not canon yet until it shows up in Picard Season 3. I pointed out that damn near all the media and freaking Viacom/CBS has confirmed this. I also pointed out he is the lone naysayer on the internet saying the opposite. He seems to be just plain stubborn and part of the Roddenberry cult when it comes to canon.

He is incorrect. Picard is not canon and nothing will convince me otherwise.

Red Letter Media Discussed that new live action show, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds which apparently Trek fan Mike actually watched and he apparently lasted for one and a half episodes before giving up on it. Said it wasn't due to it being atrociously bad or anything but he found the opening premise ludicrous and stupid and that the writing of the characters in NuTrek aren't his cup of tea stating that the characters written in the older Treks he liked were mature and intelligent and adults while in NuTrek's Strange New Worlds they are always ready with a humorous quip, and spend a lot of time frolicking through the starship laughing, acting like teenagers and he can't deal with Starfleet characters acting that way. :p

Mmmm... the problem is that Mike is way too married to his "TNG is the best" position to be a good metric for anything.

Like, he's a weirdo (in the Trek community) for hating Parallels and the Dominion War.

SFDebris is a much more balanced reviewer, but he hasn't publically posted his SNW review(s) yet.

Honestly, the main problems I have with SNW are:
  • Having Chapel, Uhura, and Samuel Kirk in the show (probably because of the season finale).
  • Getting too specific with Discovery references.
  • Only having 10 episodes and therefore underusing a bunch of characters.
  • Having the Gorn be a known faction and fucking with The Arena as a result of their other writing decisions.
  • Sped run the shit out of what seemed like major plot/character arcs.
It actually does a good job of being an entertaining, upbeat show that's not afraid to be serious when appropriate. It just doesn't have enough time for some characters to breathe and some questionable creative choices.

Best live action season 1 since TOS though.

Well, he posted his first review of it today:

I notice he didn't touch on the Jan 6th footage being used, though. :sneaky:

His son got hit by a forklift, Youtube constantly fucks him over, Toho copyright struck his latest Kaiju movie review, etc...

Him deciding to dodge talking about the Jan. 6 footage makes sense from a "for fuck's sake, I just want to get this out and stay out" POV.

Now I just want Pukard to get the same treatment and for Bad Robot to go into bankruptcy and for Kurtzman and Abrams to get caught diddling minors, then sent to be Tyrone's prison wives. :D

Riker apparently doesn't care if it clearly IS a trap...

Though I mean it was kinda foreshadowed. :sneaky:

What's funny is that Harry Kim literally gets an entire episode that's basically that in Voyager.

That said, I don't think Discovery is actually being cancelled in the sense that Cowboy Bebop live action did. This isn't the era of guaranteed, long multi-year runs like it was in the 1990s, and for all we know, they've just had a re-up clause that wasn't executed on.

Yeah five seasons seems to be a pretty solid metric. If it gets a proper ending, that would help confirm that it wasn't cancelled prematurely and they just declined the re-up as you say.

Still it not continuing is overall a positive. :p
