Make a damn thread on 19th Century sailing vessels!!! Stop mucking up this Star Trek Thread!!!!
Give me some time and it will be done if I get around to it because here's how many sheets of paper it takes to fully describe what's needed to build a 19th century warship: four sheets of 36"x48", and that's it.

Wow, they actually brought Sybok out. I am honestly shocked they refenced ST5 at all.

I'm not, references are all anything is built on anymore. That's especially going to be the case with nuTrek since they're constantly trying to legitimize their shows. :cautious:

Lower Decks is getting a comic:
Article:
Now, the franchise's comedic branch, Star Trek: Lower Decks, is getting the comic book treatment on September 14.

Adapted by the Eisner Award-winning author of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Ryan North, the Star Trek: Lower Decks comics bring the lower deckers on a planetary expedition of epic proportions. Captain Freeman leads her crew aboard the USS Cerritos on a planetary expedition in an effort to build bridges and advance technology for the Federation. As they venture out though, Freeman becomes wary of the planet and the intentions of its inhabitants. While all of that is happening, everyone's favorite lower deckers are busy messing around with the holodeck and taking a much-needed break to have some fun only to have their games get interrupted by a violent visitor.

I stand Number 1......... Mostly because I still want to bang Rebecca Romjin.
The best episode is the season finale.
TWOK era costumes, recreating The Balance of Terror, the little stuff like some of the theme music. Beautiful. My only issue is Kirk's actor isn't doing it for me.

SNW is hundreds of times better than STD and Picard. Of course, literal dogshit is better than those latter two. But it has to be admitted: while I have some quibbles with SNW as a Trek series (and some of those quibbles are pretty front-and-centre), it's not at all bad television.

I agree that the season finale is the best they've been up until this point. Going into @nemo1986's point:

The actor they got for Kirk doesn't convince me as Kirk, either. It's not that he's doing a bad job, it's that the guy I'm seeing there just isn't Kirk. Even Pine, who frankly had shittier writing, did a better job at trying to seem like he's the guy he's supposed to be.

On the other hand, what I do like is that they didn't just go with "meme Kirk", for lack of a better term. He's depicted as an intelligent and inventive captain. They didn't ignore the fact that Kirk is, canonically, a genius who excels in multiple fields.

Still, the characterisation was off, somehow. What I got here -- and this may be a weird tangent -- is a guy more like how I imagined Anakin Skywalker to have been, when Obi-Wan talks about him in ANH. "A cunning warrior", and actually somewhat cold-blooded. What we see here strikes that tone, and doesn't really leap out to me as "oh, yeah, that's Kirk all right!"

Well there are only 3 Captain Kirks. William Shatner, Vic Mignogna and Chris Pine. And that is it
