I really wish Enterprise got its final season so we could see this badass refit. The NX class was pretty cool aesthetically.
That looks like rebuilding it from almost scratch. You'd be refitting the saucer extensively and adding s whole main ody and new necelles.

That's the cannon refit for the NX class. I would imagine it probably gets warp 7 engines shields and some more weaponry since this would have been the game changer for the Earth Romulan war.

'Modern'ize. TOS was plenty civilized, even on the fringes of Federation space.

But things had to be pushed to some weird levels of modernity and post-modernity. Because Gene had reasons and a vision of a utopian dystopia.

Thankfully, someone had some brains and the TNG-DS9 era wasn't as bad as Roddenberry would've made it if he had free reign.

Because of that, we got a lot of good out of that era and mostly only the 'finding it's legs' type of bad.

This gen Star Trek though. Ooof. It's like the other generations might as well not exist.

Kirk showed the way. Then they decided that they had to 'civilize' Trek. Even though Trek is supposed to be roughly Captain Cook exploring the Pacific in Outer Space.

TOS was a rare example of Executive Meddling gone right. The whole Western in Space theme of the series was all thanks to the producers telling Roddenberry that what he wanted wouldn't sell, and even toning down his vision nearly bombed TOS. The series only really rebounded thanks to reruns, its initial showing had very poor ratings.

If you really wanted to see Roddenberry's unfiltered vision for Star Trek, go watch seasons 1 and 2 of TNG. You know, the Trek no one wanted to watch, hence Paramount coming down hard on the producers to tone down the Commie propaganda BS. And even then, it wasn't until they completely got rid of Roddenberry and his craziness that Star Trek really began to shine. And not just DS9, but also Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home, and of course, The Undiscovered Country.

EDIT: No, really. Roddenberry admitted in an interview that the Federation as he envisioned it was supposed to be an idealized version of the Soviet Union. He also threw a fit when he saw the redesigned Starfleet uniforms for Star Trek II to VI, since they were too militaristic, and was about to file a lawsuit against Nicholas Meyer for Star Trek VI's 'end of the Cold War' themes when he died.

Was kind of surprised to see someone actually defend "These Are the Voyages" on one of the Facebook groups I follow. Apparently they thought the only real flaw with the episode was the episode of TNG that it used. I have no idea what I bother with things like this, because it's not the first time that I wasted a lot of time and effort in putting together a well-thought out explanation of why someone is wrong on one of these Star Trek groups, actually trying not to be insulting or anything, only to have them end up deleting their post after getting the least little bit of criticism. Dammit. :cautious:
