Made a new thread for Facebook Inc news with Bacle's blessing. I guess this will cover Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram and other Facebook owned things that are in the news, though I feel Instagram Thottery can go elsewhere... :sneaky:

Also just FYI there is a thread for the Facebook owned Oculus. But for everything else that might not be threadworthy but still worth talking about that is related to Facebook Inc and our future Lizard Emperor Mark Zuckerberg... Feel free to post here instead of Facebook and avoid getting your opinions and memes 'zucced' several months after the fact.

Facebook is now a Trillion dollar company.

It benefited from a rally in the markets after an antitrust suit brought against Facebook by 48 States Attorneys Generals and the Federal Trade Commission was dismissed by a Federal Judge.

Facebook blocked/banned ads from an Indie game being developed called Road 96 by Digixart. This appears to be their first game. The ads were blocked due to restrictions on politics, elections, and social issues.

Tech Raptor said:
Road 96 is set in a fictional world where players have to escape to the border through the fictional country of Petria. You hitchhike to freedom by choosing your own way in Summer 1996. During this road trip, you'll meet characters and discover their secrets and stories as you try and navigate through the authoritarian nation of Petria. Sounds interesting enough, right?

This ad opens a whole can of worms in the form of a simple question: what is supposed to be blocked? What is fair play? While Road 96 has players "flee a regime" and is a politically expedient game in a politically charged time, does that mean Road 96 should have its ads and this ad in particular blocked? It is made murkier by the fact that Facebook acknowledges that its process is imperfect on political ads.

Wasn't the first game to get ad blocked by Facebook for this reason either. Happened last year to a game called Democracy 4.

The Competition and Markets Authority, a UK Watchdog group, has stated that Facebook's ownership of Giphy "could lead it to deny other platforms access to its Gifs". About half of the media on Giphy as of the announcement of the May 2020 deal between to the two groups, was linked to Facebook owned Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp social media platforms. However the other half of Giphy media was used on rival social media platforms such as TikTok, Snapchat and Twitter.

If this is found true, they could compel Facebook to sell Giphy merely a year after Facebook purchased the company.

Both Democracy 4 and Road 96 are left wing games.

Facebook's ad banning process is definitely automated.

Seems all those Zuckbucks that were tossed into elections across the nation last year is going to have some consequences after the AZ audit came out.

This is not the first I'd heard of Zuck being investigated over this, but it is the first time I've seen an annoucement about specific govs giving the greenlight to go after FB and Zuck for election issues.

things collapse at first slowly and then all at once.

Its going to be slow going but I think this is all going to blow up at once.

Man, these guys seem like psuedo-Nolan Sorento's trying to find a way to leverage every moment they can on online interaction for marketing research and trying to generate more even while kids are on playdates.
