As a bit of an aside, if we had taken all Polk wanted way back when (even with the concern over more slave states), it would have been interesting to see the effect it would have had on illegal immigration. While the border itself would only be somewhat smaller, but still kind of big, it also would have been quite a bit more mountainous.

The NCR could have joined in on the space race too if only they'd listened to Mr. House. They'd of been better off if they'd listened him about a lot of issues.

Well, they did start off significantly behind and the long-term dividends of starting a space program from scratch just didn't seem to be sufficient to justify it over, say, new PA and tank factories.

I'd also think the US wouldn't take too kindly to the NCR having so much as a any sat in space, and taking out a satellite wouldn't start a war. Even if the NCR neglected making tank and power armor, it would be much harder to get a foothold in space.

Pre-war America had already militarized space. I wouldn't be surprised if they had anti-satellite tech invented, though not necessarily still active.

Dust off the old ABM systems but upload the sensor returns of NCR satellites instead of Chinese warheads into the targeting computer, and bam!, anti-sat weapon. Failing that you just need a big enough laser and a telescope.

Given that said ABM network managed to blunt the nuclear exchange enough that, despite being caught completely flatfooted, the US had anything resembling a future left (from the implications of at least one character, the rest of the world after that exchange makes the US look like paradise... if you can reach it)... I wouldn't be surprised that the old ABMs can do that.

Also, found a good armor design for the US:

That's the T-65, am I right? If I hadn't established that the US uses a mix of X-02s (designated T-72) and Hellfires (designated T-90) I might have a place for it somewhere.

No. That's Hellcat Power Armor. Well, a rusted version.

This is T-65 Armor.

According to Fallout 76, that model of power armor was used by the Secret Service. You find it in Vault 79. The US Government secretly transferred the gold from Fort Knox to Vault 79 so that the Chinese wouldn't be able to destroy the US Gold Reserve if the Chinese targeted Fort Knox. It was also assumed that after a nuclear exchange the US government could use that gold to rebuild the economy. (The Secret Service was in charge of Vault 79.)

Hellcat Power Armor is used by Hellcat Company, a group of mercenaries. They have a logo of a demonic cat with the motto Mors Ex Mare . . . Which I guess is supposed to mean "death from the sea".

Given that Fallout 76 takes place only 25 years after the nukes launched, they might actually be what's left of a US Army Division. Historically, the Hellcats fought in the European Theater of World War 2 as the 12th Armored Division. Perhaps the division stuck around in the Fallout timeline or they're named for them, but between the appearance of the armor, their logo, and this line from the newscaster in Fallout 4 that people have taken as a reference to them, "All the easier for our mechanized hellcats to drive any screaming Commie meamies right into the Bohol Sea".

Well, as said, people think they might be a Pre-War unit turned mercenary and that Hellcat Power Armor was used for amphibious operations.

They work for a West Tek scientist named Blackburn. He hated and despised the mistake that was the Super Mutant, feeling guilty by association for every Wastelander menaced by them, and he was dedicated to doing everything he could to undo that mistake and make FEV into what it was meant to be. Not that he succeeded. Seems like all he ever did was make smarter but still violent super mutants, and when he tested what he thought was a "perfected" strain on himself after being backed into a corner all he managed was to turn himself into a smart Behemoth.

Yeah, it looks better not rusted all over:

Dark-HellCat-PA-Retexture-4k-5.jpg

Make the eyes yellow-orange, not red, put a woodland camo pattern scheme as well, and I think that'd be a better look for the in-story T-108 than the fanart I'm currently using.

BTW, somebody actually made a mod for FO3 where you can join the Enclave. Surprised it took this long!

I mean you probably want to cut down the pauldrons by about 2/3s, internalize those hoses, and armor up that midsection. Lord only knows many US soldiers died when their air supply was comprised thanks to exposed rubber tubing. Just look at this thing, it is waiting for a ricochet or shrapnel to cause problems.

Informational: E-US High School Lesson Plans

Wrote this to get past writers' block, enjoy.

==*==

The following is a summary of the typical high school curriculum and lesson plans used in the United States of America from 2320 onward. It must be noted that this only represents a template favoured by the US Department of Education and is often subject to modification based on local conditions, including the whims of Commonwealth or State officials or the desires of elected local school boards. In addition, the subjects themselves are taught in a structural patriotic context given their intent to make well-adjusted, well-rounded citizens (and it might be noted, already with a basic inclination toward military service) out of unruly teenage boys and girls.

Monday

07:00 Arrival at school, assembly in front of school. Pledge of Allegiance followed by singing of national anthem.
07:10 Cold shower in preparation for physical education.
07:15 Physical Education – calisthenics and general fitness. Slackers given 30 extra minutes under supervision of instructor.
08:00 American History – 1776-2077. Emphasis on military history. Slight pro-Federalist slant in depictions of post-revolutionary turmoils, pro-Union emphasis in ACW. 1941-2077 period, inc. WW2, taught as one long conflict with communism in various manifestations. Glorified Presidents -Washington, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, Nixon, Reagan, A. F. Jones.

What little of “local” post-War history is taught largely emphasises atrocities of raiders, super mutants, “illegal governments”. Three Presidents strongly emphasised – Richardson, treated as “70% right 30% wrong” figure who despite his flaws initiated reclamation of mainland, with his genocidal attitudes having long been suppressed, treated as martyr to cause of reclamation; Eden, seen as tragic hero who set up the reclamation but died before it could really begin; Autumn, flat-out glorified.

I'd be very interested in more details about what the Enclave says about Richardson and Eden. Particularly what that 30% wrong that Richardson did is since they don't believe in the genocide plot.

From my understanding, Richardson's genocide plot was only accepted by a tiny fraction of the Enclave and that faction was centered around the Rig. The majority of the Enclave we encounter on the field is less accepting of outright genocide (exterminate bandits? Sure, what sane civilization doesn't go out of their way to exterminate bandits? Genocide? Yeah, no.) and more akin to what I would call the 'Pheniox' faction which is more restore the US to its former glory...

Finally registering for a forum account, been following quietly since Autumn Morning. Never got around to doing any of...this. That said, some light commenting and questioning, since I've recently re-read the whole shebang.

Autumn Morning Chapters ~18-21: Cheeky Worm reference, a Colonel Hebert from "Brockton".
Interquel: Wish we'd gotten Northern Chill finished off. I adore navy things.
Modern map: I can't quite see, but does Germany hold Elsaß-Lothringen? It does belong to her...
Chapter 24: Praise be to the battleships, may carriers falter before their guns! Even US carriers.

West Russian Death Zone ?

West Russian Death Zone ?
Taking a wild guess it's the radioactive remains of the more urbanized western Russian regions. I doubt the E!USA gives much of a damn about Siberia.

I wonder what the average American knows about California? Just standard propaganda about rebels or maybe something more detailed? Technically speaking the NCR was the first fully-formed American successor state to crawl out of the ashes and that has to be of at least academic interest. Do the Minutemen and the Commonwealth Provisional Government get any credit in Massachusetts or are they papered over too?
