This crisis is going to make it clear to all of Europe that their "Union" is a house of cards; and as it progresses, every country is going to be scrambling for every resource they can get their hands on, and few will deign to share any of it with their neighbors. I'm with Peter Zeihan on this; we are about to witness the end of the European Union.

Arab socialism as I understand it is secular. Islamist movements were dealt with often very repressively. Saddam appealed to Islamic rhetoric, but the man didn't see himself as a caliph.
