What if (all of) the assassinated Charlie Hebdo cartoonists get magically resurrected two years after their murder thanks to invisible and undetectable Alien Space Bats?

It'll cause crises of faith among many, sure (including non-Islam religions and sects, like Christianity), but many (especially Muslims) would likely shriek their heads off that the Devil was responsible, so the murderers were "just" in the first place.

Do Muslims believe in the Devil and his ability to Resurrect?

Do you think it'd matter if they did or not?

Look at it from their perspective: People murdered for posting anti-Muhammad cartoons are magically resurrected. They're either going to think Allah was responsible or, more likely because the reason those people were killed was because they were taking the piss out God's "Prophet", that their devil-figure was responsible.

There's no doubt there'd be scores of Muslims wanting their beheadings again, though (remember the protests and the infamous signs like "Behead those who insult Islam!"), and the assassinations attempts would be through the roof.

99% of Muslims aren't rational people when a perceived insult to their religion or their Prophet is involved.

I wonder if we see Jinn-worship among more liberal Muslims become much more widespread in this TL:

Human nature says it's probable, though they'd be deep undergrounds sects akin to how serious Satan-worshippers were in the last few centuries.

Yeah, it will take a while for them to go mainstream though now thankfully Satanism is able to be openly practiced in the Christian world. But Christians are on average much more liberal than Muslims are, so ...

Maybe in a post-ayatollah Iran or Turkey or Central Asia or Azerbaijan or the Balkans, things might be better for Jinn-worshippers in this TL.

Modern Satanism, such as the front on Twitter ("Church of Satanism") are... pretty much half-serious, half-parodies. They can get away with it because of how tolerant modern, Western society has become because, outside of the religious crazies (which sadly includes a lot of Americans), we recognize that they're basically harmless, even if they seriously do consider Satan their Lord and Savior than Jesus/God.

I have no doubt in my mind, however, that there are hidden, unseen groups which aren't harmless in comparison, and they're into some dark, twisted Satanic shit that you'd see inside of horror movies. They're the types of groups you'd never know about unless you're a member of them.

Perhaps without the more twisted shit, that's how I'd see Islam's possible sects of devil analogue worshippers, in this scenario.

Muslims are still fundamentalist at their core. It's pretty much hard-coded into their religion.

Nothing wrong with that if one sees Lucifer/Satan as a righteous rebel against God's tyranny in Heaven! Revisionist Biblical history, if you will!

Yep, makes perfect sense!

see this idea makes me brown my britches a little. you know how much crap i've seen scouring the likes of fanfiction Deviantart and Archive of Our Own? *Shutters* how twisted would they have to be to be more twisted than that?

Trust me: the real deal is probably the non-supernatural shit Stephen King likes to write in real-life.
How so?
I think a lot of people would assume that those cartoonists had not really been dead, but just in hiding somewhere.
They've been basically confirmed as being dead by friends and family, the law, et cetera. People have seen their... damaged corpses, to say the least.

Basically, unless there's Eraser-type shit going on, it's pretty much confirmed they've been shuffled off this mortal coil; having them suddenly walking around again...

... proves that their deaths were fake news.
I'm not saying it would make sense. Just that lots of people would find it easier to believe than that they had been supernaturally returned to life.

Zyobot

Just a time-traveling robot stranded on Earth.

I can see that angle, too.

Yeah, well, in either case, a string of assassination attempts to put them down for real this time is on the way.

Frankly, if Salman Rushdie received as much shit as he got — as well as almost stabbed to death last August — all for a book he published more than thirty fucking years ago, then I can’t imagine these poor chaps faring any better, even after being brought back to life. :(
