Hawaii is the only state with a net energy-producing OTEC (Makai produces about enough energy to power 120 homes continually). Expanding that would produce much better results than giving up their precious land area for solar panels, heck a properly built OTEC can even desalinize water in the process of generating power.

100kW is not impressive. That's 134hp. My 23yr old Toyota Solara has 160hp.

It's also orders of magnitude more massive than a 24-valve 3 litre V6 with a misfiring cylinder and a check engine light that will not shut up no matter what you do.
And orders of magnitude smaller than those solar panels, which if it's the one I believe it is produces about 30MW. What's your point? Car engines aren't electrical power plants, they're engines burning fuel to produce movement. Expecting them to be identical in size is nonsense, if you tried to power several city blocks off your Toyota you'd be in for a hard time.
