To be fair, In universe he's probably been waiting thirty years to do something relevant. Keep in mind, according to Star Wars canon the Empire fell in like a year so Han's been shitting about for the past three decades doing nothing of consequence. He probably has a lot of desire and will to do something interesting in this last stage of his meandering life.

I am still completely aghast at that timeline in the new canon. The EU seemed like a sensible progression of Imperial collapse... And we know how ridiculous it was at times.

They've done some interesting things during the Clone Wars/Rise of Empire era from what I've seen/read/heard but while there have been good stories, there hasn't been anything suitably epic or good like what the EU had. The best of the Disney canon material is merely Truce of Bakura level quality as opposed to Thrawn Trilogy level. The Thrawn Trilogy, Knights of the Old Republic games, the Dark Forces games, every other New Jedi Order book, and several of the comics (including some excellent storylines in Star Wars: Empire) all had great stories that in the past few years Disney canon hasn't really managed to match, especially in the post-Endor era.

I haven't read the Aftermath trilogy but one of my friends did and was telling me about it. Like the first novel was super fast paced that they actually slowed shit down for the second one... so it actually read better. But there was a lot of 'explaining' exposition like... Oh we lost Kuat already... and eleven of our SSD's so only one is left and a quarter of our Fleet disappeared, and half was destroyed by the Rebel Alliance somehow... which is already the New Republic. Apparently it was decent enough read.... but still lame. So the overall story quality is zero... but the writing multiplied that zero by like... twenty times by the end. But that's still zero. Just so truncated. I wonder if it's limited by trying to explore everything while fifty movies/tv series are being planned in the same era or something. Either way it doesn't make for a good Disney version of the EU.

So I just saw the first episode of The Mandalorian...why couldn't this be plot/setting of the sequel films, instead of the trash movies we got?

The IG-series droid was awesome and hilarious, while the package they were sent to capture/terminate...well that was an epic reveal.

...why does Disney devote all the good writers to the shows?

I'm sure it's because they want a really strong start for their Disney+ Service. If it becomes anything as large or lucrative as Netflix, it'll be a huuuuuuge cash cow even eclipsing their box office potentially. Streaming services are pulling in like 40-50 billion in revenue... and that's slightly larger then the cinema box office at the same time. If Disney can get in on that it'll be more lucrative then a whole bunch of shitty Star Wars sequels. That's probably why they're spending like millions on this TV show per episode as well. It's going to be their flagship franchise to launch their service.

Pff, too bad that because of the fragmentation of streaming services, customers have taken up the Jolly Jack again.

It's pretty clear Eckharts Ladder joined the Alt Right. I just saw a video the other day by HiddenXperia who covers Halo lore. He was opining about why the Halo tv series decided to cast Captain Keyes and another character as Black when it's been firmly established in lore they are White.

He then double downed on his bigotry by stating the actor they cast as Keyes would've been a perfect Sergeant Johnson.

So, I know this isn't exactly on-topic, but it is Star Wars related.

How would it have affected the old EU if Thrawn had found the Maw Installation, and all the goodies in it, during his campaign against the New Republic?

Start another thread, surely? The short answer is... Trouble.

Exactly this. They want to drive Disney+ subscriptions far more than they want blockbuster movies.

And the shitting on Star Wars continues.
According to internal data within the Fallen Order game, Starkiller Base from TFA is actually an old EU planet we once knew as Ilum which first appeared in the novel Jedi Quest and Genndy Wars (although some of you zoomers may only remember it from Filoni Wars' Gathering episode) where it was one of the most sacred worlds of the jedi and the source of most lightsaber crystals, and I guess Disney hadn't taken a big enough dump yet on past SW lore so they decided to wreck Ilum, destroy the temple and the biggest source of lightsaber crystals before eventually converting it into the Death Star 3 XL/Starkiller and then blowing it up in TFA. I should've seen this coming when a shitty Hidalgo guide put Starkiller in the same coordinates as Ilum.

TL,DR version: The planet from where jedi once collected their lightsaber krystals was conquered by the Empire and converted into the Starkiller of the First Order. And, well, we all know what happened to the Starkiller.

Fucking hell, the "creators" at Disney really are determined to defile everything from the Legends timeline, aren't they?

That's what you get with Kathleen Kennedy with her rabid crusade to burn everything with fire of 3rd wave feminism. Everything in the past must burn as it does not comply with the ideological purity set forth by the Commissary of rabid misandrist 3rd wave feminists.
