Suggestions So what's the plan for the NSFW subforum?

Garbage, no matter how you prepare or season it, is still garbage. Also it seems all we are doing is throwing aphorisms at each other.
NTR is a wide variety of things that can happen. It could be used in organized crime stories. Spy stories, etc etc

Let's face it; former owner Zoe's attempt to provide a space where we can all post milk-toast erotic content was a failure long before she "left", and now it's just sad. There has been a grand total of two works of erotic fiction posted (one in 2019, and another in 2020), one recruitment thread for an RP that never went anywhere, and a couple of image threads who's combined contents would barely fill half an issue of Playboy (setting aside that most of the images contained therein would have probably been rejected as submissions for simply being too tame). All in all, the only thing people use it for is that one thread where we complain about other forums.

I think we need to have a serious discussion as to what the NSFW subforum is even for; because as it stands, it's just being used as a place where we can hide interforum drama. Personally I think we either need to dramatically loosen restrictions on what content can be posted (basically emulating QQ), or abandon the conceit that the NSFW subforum is primarily for pornographic content altogether, and just say that it's for marginally more offensive content than what is appropriate to post elsewhere on the forum in general. Either may encourage more people to post there, though the latter would also probably require rebranding.

I have a fic I've been working on since late 2018 that was a bit of a hit on QQ (until I was banned there) that I can't even publish in our NSFW section simply because it violates the content restrictions on multiple levels. The NSFW section here is basically dead because of how hilariously restrictive and moralistic the rules are. I mean, we could use warning tags, right? Or, as a compromise, perhaps hide questionable paragraphs and passages behind spoiler tags with explicit descriptions of their contents?

There is another forum on here? I am logged in and can't see it. I presume its behind a paywall or something?

Ah, now I see it at the bottom. This thread suggests it isn't very interesting though.

Not paywalled, you just have to request access to it. As you say, not a whole lot happens there though, mostly posting slightly racy memes.

So does storytelling, and all of its mechanics. And I fail to see how story can actually redeem something that bad, it is like polishing a turd. Or putting a beautiful façade on a depilated structure, which as I have heard is what has happened in St. Petersburg.

Orson Welles said it best on the Dick Cavett show. You can make a porno with Oscar caliber cinematography but it can't have Oscar caliber writing because it would distract from the smut and the smut would defeat the purpose of such story telling.

Pretty much. I can recall a couple times back in college where I wanted to fast forward the smut to get to the story in some stuff.

The hilarity is that some porn stars are capable of Oscar/Emmy worthy acting. But they know not to bother unless they're doing stuff on conventional TV because they know it trying to put effort into a porn script would ruin the porn.

So it definitely cuts both ways. We'd skip the noods to get to the story, they'd need viagras to make it to the noods while enduring the story.

I guess I wouldn't think so, mainly because of so many R-rated movies that got pretty close anyway so it would just be a matter of going a bit further. But really it just comes down to what people are in the mood for, and most people watching porn are probably just looking to fap, which is why you don't really see porn movies being made anymore and it's pretty much just all gonzo porn.

It's possible for something X-rated to have both. It's just really rare and the script is usually derived from something that was highly lauded.

There's actually a musical porn remake of a non-musical porn parodying the musical "My Fair Lady" ... which is itself derived from a George Bernard Shaw play ("Pygmalion") that draws its plot from Greek Mythology.

Is there actually any reason to drop it? Are spambots getting into it and making it more of a moderator burden than the same number of legitimate posts somewhere else? Are too few people willing to moderate it so that it goes unmoderated if the normal mod goes on vacation? Because if it's not something like that I see no reason not to kick the can down the road until maintaining it causes a problem.

Because someday the law might change so that eg. any ASoIaF fic that handles the Targeryns, Lannister twins, or uses the book ages for certain young women may have to be moved behind a "the user asserts they are at least 18," checkbox.

Pretty sure anything like that is already banned by ToS here, even in the NSFW forum?

Surely that's only graphic descriptions.
Generally yes, the focus for that is on graphic description, though there is also the "creeper" leeway too. You write up a harem fic where all the girls are underage but don't actually post any graphic sex descriptions but its clear they're interested in that and are consistently described in revealing outfits... we'd take that down due to the squick factor.

There was a fic that was forced to rewrite and subsequently died to a disaffected muse on SB because a teenager whose boyfriend had just been killed by neonazis was implied to be suffering morning sickness. This was the first implication that anything sexual had happened.

The other example I'd use is the stageplay for Romeo and Juliette because just about everyone is familiar with it. The title characters, who are underage by modern standards but not by those of the time depicted, elope to avoid Juliette's arranged marriage and Romeo spends the night in Juliette's bedchamber in a work that has commonly required reading in middle or high school in the US even in the moral majority era. Any rule that would put Romeo and Juliette even in a grey area is too restrictive.

Generally speaking so long as you aren't so blatant and descriptive that it slips the line from 'literary' to 'pornography'. I wish I could give a clear bright line, but I'll stick with the obscenity standard, 'I'll know it when I see it'. That being said, neither of the examples you gave would be against our rules. Romeo & Juliet doesn't involve us watching the pair engaged in sex, it just implies it and moves on, likewise the story described wouldn't come near the rules, because we don't make judgements based on implications that happened off screen.

Better than what you'd get over on Spacebattles, but still too restrictive for my liking. Then again, even many pornographic websites have rules against posting anything resembling underaged content; either out of fear of legal trouble, or personal disgust on the part of the staff.

Stupid question, but where exactly is the location of this subforum? Because I can't seem to find it. :(
