So what are you watching?

I've been rewatching Narcos recently but i just started a new series that seems pretty good based off the recommendations for Narcos called El Candidato. It's James purefoy (Marc Antony from Rome) hunting down some drug cartel kingpin. Pretty good so far though the other not purefoy characters seem mediocre tbh

Rewatched Where Eagles Dare for the first time in ~20 years. Too young when I first watched it to catch most of the espionage/spy stuff and double-triple-reverse betrayals and games it plays up, and the first half up to a kind of action-movie analogue to a 'courtroom scene' is, besides one big explosion-exception, this wonderful building-tension and intrigue-heavy movie of guessing-games, so it was actually like watching part of a whole new movie because most of what I recalled was the shooting and Nazi-exploding that takes off in the second half.

Burton makes for a great 'getting too old for this shit' Brit, and Eastwood brings trademark Eastwood...I suppose before 'trademark Eastwood' was even really a thing? Or when it was still Western-movie squinting-Eastwood rather than Dirty Harry squinting-Eastwood? I dunnow, the point is he plays the part well and it's fun to see him and Burton's characters bounce off one another.

Also cool to watch because now that young-prinCZess isn't wide-eyed at all the flashing colors and heroism depicted, she could see where and when green-screen and painted backgrounds were used, when cuts were made and mannequins inserted in-place of actors...And get another giggle out of the 'exploding blood-packet' era of dramatic death scenes. It's an interesting phenomenon, really--to be able to notice the offness of things but still willingly let yourself be taken along for the ride because it's fun., and I think I almost might like it more than the more 'convincing' route modern films and special effects can manage? Even in the audience, there's times where how something being off on-screen shakes me into noticing it, and then piecing together what they did, and then having to come up with a reason why is something of an entertaining process itself that fills the space while on-screen Eastwood is rat-tat-tatting.

Boils down to a good time.

I just finished watching the entire original Star Wars trilogy, and by original, I mean original; in the form of Harmy's Despecialized Edition. It is so much more enjoyable seeing the practical effects without all the late-nineties CG plastered over them, as well as David Prowse instead of Hayden Christensen behind Vader's mask. For as much as I despise what Kathleen Kennedy has done to the franchise, at least she didn't pervert the first three films like George Lucas did with his "Special Edition" alterations.

While some of the changes where not bad most felt uneeded in general.

The big thing about the remaster version is that they created a new generation of fans. It was the frist time I saw a Star Wars movie in theaters and proved that Star Wars still had massive public draw. Becasue while they where still making games and writing books the odds of seeing another new movies was nil till the remasters proved popular. Granted it may have been a mistake with the squeals but at least we got Rouge One.

First of all, the major issue I had with the "Special Editions" was that Lucas didn't just make the alterations he did to "improve" the films; he did it so he wouldn't have to pay royalties to his ex-wife anymore, who had been the editor for the original films (whom he divorced specifically because he was jealous of her receiving an award for her work on Star Wars, when he did not). This is why he never allowed an official re-release of the original cut of the films (Disney meanwhile won't because according to their contract with Lucas, he receives royalties off of anything to do with the films he directed).

Secondly, I haven't seen Rouge One beyond some clips off of Youtube; and from what I've seen, I have no desire to see more. In short, I could have done without that film being made.

Rogue One is awesome. It's exactly what I would have wanted the new breed of Star Wars films to be. And it finally got us Vader being Vader.
Congratulations? I don't know; maybe I just don't want a new breed of Star Wars films. The original trilogy is enough for me.

There does seem to be a minority of fans who didn't like Rogue One but yes, I loved it as well. Some of my friends thought it was the best Star Wars movie out there. Not myself personally but I did love it.

It had the feel of the original movies even of the plot had more depth and layers then the original trilogy. The characters werent as iconic as the ones in other films but the story itself was strong amd kept me engrossed throughout.

And not only did they give us Vader beimg Vader, but another proper epic space battle, the best one I've seen since Endor. It's tragic that both the prequel and sequel trilogy utterly failed in delivering a comparable space battle to what Return of the Jedi did way back in 1983.

I agree on the remastered oringinal trilogy as well. It's how I was introduced to the films (though I think I saw the originals before) I do wish there was an *original* cut easily available because I'd love to just check it out legitimately again (and plus I too heard many changes were unnecessary) and see how my memory changed and just general curiosity.

Ya I still have the original cut on VHS and there are a lot of differences between them. While a lot is just adding background like extra creatures some are added scenes. Not to mention changing Vader's ghost at the End of Return of the Jedi.

I hope that Disney will make available all copies for digital download they can milk the fans for more money. But I doubt they will snice not even Lucas did when he was busy shoring out Star Wars in the late 90's.

At least Star Wars never did anything as dumb as E.T. did with editing out the guns some the G-men had two radios.

Finished watching Stargirl's first season today. A great series with sympathetic and relatable characters and a cheerful protagonist. And the first season was great. Looking forward to the next one, as the first one ended with a good cliffhanger.

That is good. I have tried Supergirl a couple of times and have never gotten into it. I have heard good things about the Flash and Arrow but never had time to watch them.

Right now I am watching Daredevil. I am in the second season and it is decent show. It is nice to see a true street level superhero show. Even Agents of Sheild started to creep into world ending threats early on.

But the show has has some great villains and Fisk really stands out as a compelling villain.

Watching The Old Guard right now on Netflix. It's the movie starring Charlize Theron as the leader of a group of seemingly immortal badasses. I might write up a full review of my thoughts on it later but at the moment... I must say I am pissed.

How many lives and millions of dollars is the f'ing CIA pissing away on trying to capture these people... and not for any particularly noble reason or patriotic one, but on behalf of some Big Pharma assholes? Man I hate the Deep State both IRL and in fiction. Like they didn't even bother asking one of these guys for a marrow sample or shot them a DM first. They went right to kill teams and assassin squads. Really emphasizing the whole 'clandestine' operations and 'quiet professionals' geniuses.

The Big Pharma company isn't even American. It's British.

What a clusterfucking waste of taxpayer money... and lives. SMH.

It wasn't the CIA, the CIA dude was acting as a private individual and not actually using government resources for his idiocy.

Just finished watching the movie. Yes it pleased me that it turned out it was just private Big Pharma assholes doing everything and supplying the warm bodies to serve up to the inevitable slaughter.

You...👀

In all seriousness though Young Guns
I'm not really familiar with that. Though I just finished watching Death Note for the first time.

I'm also watching Black Lagoon. I'm currently watching the OVA Roberta's Redemption.

Have any of you guys checked out Legends of the Galactic Heroes? There's a remake and an older one. The old one's a classic, but the remake is also good especially in terms of the updated uniforms and improved visuals.

Death note is good despite it being about people who are morally bankrupt the thing that always ignored me was how light had no real long term plans beyond kill criminals/alleged criminals without mercy until change somehow happened.

I always found it weird that people would compare Lelouch to him, Light is only similar to him in the way he's smart enough to outfox his pursuiters beyond that however he has no realistic long term goals or ideas on how to achieve them.

In the terms of Young Guns/Young Guns 2 it isn't an anime, but a feature film made in the 80's/early 90's in the old west, it's about Billy the Kid and it's soundtrack gave is this Bon Jovi gem.

It's weird I normally aren't a fan of Westerns and despise a good deal of them, but I make a exception for the above and Tombstone/Silverado

Yes, it is well worth watching. There are some problems but nothing big. The cast is huge but the are good about making sure you know who each character. But the shows has multiple plots and sub plots with a vast universe that feels real.

There is a good reason that it is a classic Sci-Fi Space Opera. I would recommend it.

Now the difference so far between 6he old show and new one are small. The biggest is just the updated animation but over the frist two seasons pretty much follow the old show. Now the original version animation is not bad but it is the same quality as the original Gundam. It is very 1980' and early 90's animation.

I mean there are different versions. I think there was a remastered one released so the quality varies a bit and gets better as the series goes on. It was pretty good for its time and the fact that they used cell animation for all of it, and made it so detailed, astounds me.

I just started watching JoJo's Bizzare Adventure Stardust Crusaders. I'm on episode 4 right now.

I was thinking of watching Hellising. I think its an older anime from the early/mid 2000's. Is it any good?
