Movies Snyder Cut

... Its a Snyder film (notorious for being disappointments to all but a select few)

I honestly liked Snyder's Man of Steel and Batman V Superman movies, yeah they were dark and edgy, but they sure as hell didn't give that annoying constantly-snarky-comedy vibe of MCU films

Just like the previous Justice League version tried imitating

I guess it's nice that Warner Bros is listening to the fans and actually re-releasing a whole different cut of a film but personally I just can't find myself caring that much.

Justice League wasn't that good of a movie IMHO and was dark and too over stylized and overly bloated like so many of Snyder's superhero films. Im not sure more Snyder would make the movie more interesting to me or improve my opinion of the film.

Huh--can't say as I expected studio-execs to listen to the...movement(?)...for releasing the Snyder-cut of the film, but it IS kind of neat that they'd react to the popular(?) pressure by audiences involved to do so. Kind of even more surprised to see it jumping to HBO rather than being some kind of re-release event that tries to reinvigorate the whole DC film franchise setup.

Personally I'm...vaguely interested? I never watched the amalgamation-film that was released Whedon put together because I heard bad things, but I've always kind of had a soft spot for Snyder's brand of imagery-heavy film stuff? Man of Steel gets too much crap, and I'm still kind of salty at how much Sucker Punch gets panned by people who should be all about it. Can't/won't be driven into ordering HBO for it, but I'd be curious to see the Snyder-cut of Justice League--maybe even as an explicit comparison-point to make to subsequently watching the Whedon version and coming to my own (relatively) independent conclusion on their merits and downsides.

Snyder is someone I'd want on a team or as an asst director, much like Michael Bay. They have vision and are good at their niche, but when they hold all the reigns its kind of a mess.

Still, I'll probably be seeing this.

I can't really think of a Snyder movie I actually dislike. I'm suprised seeing the trailer though how much new stuff there actually is: it amost looks like a completely different movie. At least from the trailer.

I find it hilarious how some people are completely irate about this even existing, because how dare a studio listen to the plebs?!

And I'm not even remotely a Zack Snyder fan. I don't think I'll like this film, but it's great he gets to make the film he wanted. He didn't get to make it the first time 'round because of personal tragedy, and then it was totally butchered. From the perspective of artistic merit, and simple human sympathy for Snyder as a person, it's a good thing he gets to do this.

Moreover, whatever you think of his films, his marketing strategy here is brilliant. All the angry people are only spreading awareness of the film right now.

The FINAL TRAILER for the Snyder Cut.

I'm not going to lie... the trailer almost made me forget what a substandard movie the actual Justice League film actually was. I think I stated it before but... I'm not that interested in seeing the Snyder Cut, at least to the degree of watching it in theaters or getting HBO Max or sailing the seas to watch it. But it is nice that this exists I suppose became it came out through fandom demand and the big Godless movie studio actually listened. So that's nice.

And in all honest I do hope that somehow (against my own still pretty strong misgivings) that this somehow makes the film shine. I can't see how unless they radically redesigned a surprisingly large amount of the original film IMHO but who knows... I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Plus again, the trailer is pretty cool.

I never saw any of Snyder films, and I'm not really interested in doing so now. That said, the studio had no business screwing the guy over like they did, and I would not be adverse to seeing them having to eat crow if his version ends up doing better than theirs.

The reviews are coming in!

This one says it's a marked improvement over the original. Characters like Cyborg and Flash were fleshed out far more, Steppenwolf doesn't look as shitty as before, a lot of the cringe humor was cut out and so forth. So a better movie but still nothing 'great' so to speak.

Ya Boi Zack is reviewing the movie, one hour at a time. His description is that its dripping with sincerity. Edgy teen sincerity, but sincerity non the less, which he finds nice break from the generally insincere whiton movies. In standard Ya Boi Zack moves however, he's not watching it all at once. At least he's forcing himself to watch it an hour at a time rather than 15 minutes at a time, so he should be done with the movie within the week.

Razorfist posted his review of the film, and apparently he did not like it one iota. He even predicts that it may serve to accelerate the inevitable death of the superhero genre.

The man is a massive hipster though; so take his opinion with a grain of salt.

Is way better than the original version, but that bar is very low.
Personally, i liked and don't consider the 4hours too much, but that is my personal taste.
Personages (Flash and Cyborg) are fleshed out, and also have important roles in the final conflict. Steppenwolf is a real adversary, with understandable motivations, the story has logic, unless in the first movie.
Not a great/amazing movie, but an ok/decent one for sure.

Red Letter Media released a pretty in depth review of the Snyder Cut and two out of three of them seemed to like the film and all of them seemed to agree it's a clear improvement over what was originally released. It looks like it was so much better then the previous release it made some of the Joss Whedon changes absolutely baffling to them as to why the changes were made in the first place. However they still panned the ending and certainly didn't think of it as being as solid as your standard MCU fare it seems.

Never the less, they also summarized a lot of the differences between the two films as well, even showing side by side shots and the like as well.

So yeah, I'm intrigued and want to see it, but not enough to the point that I'd actually bother to get HBO Max or whatever I feel.

TLDR...

Warner Brothers: 😭😭😭😭😭

But actually... it's... quite the story. If Warner Media was manipulated, it makes them look like idiots as opposed to victims. Zack Snyder doesn't come off looking too good either but most of the evidence against him seems like hearsay. Though I am a bit annoyed that Snyder may have been working with Ray Fisher, the Black actor who portrayed Cyborg in the DCEU and who seems to enjoy decrying everyone that has a difference with him as a racist bigot in order to further both of their interests.

The article seems rather disjointed though, on one hand the "toxic fanbase" is decried as right wing racists akin to Gamergate in attacking people like Kiersey Clemons with racist attacks but also was an "ally" to Ray Fisher when he decried Walter Hamada and Geoff Johns as racists and enablers.

The article is pretty amusing read in general. So many random anecdotes and accounts. 😄

I have some thoughts on the Snyder Cut. First, my perspective: I consider myself a DC fan, mainly from growing up with 90s and 00s era DC cartoons like Justice League and Teen Titans. Really, I consider myself more of a fan of DC, of its universe and characters, than a fan of Marvel. So I'm predisposed to wanting DC movies to be good. However, I also have high standards for what I want from DC movies, and I haven't been very impressed so far with the "DCEU" or other DC movies. Man of Steel was meh, Batman v Superman was more meh, Suicide Squad was a dumpster fire, Wonder Woman was good, the theatrical cut of Justice League was a train wreck, Shazam was fun, Aquaman was alright. Haven't seen Wonder Woman 1984, Joker, Birds of Prey, or the new Suicide Squad.

So I was skeptical that Snyder's Justice League would really be that great, but I was hopeful that it could at least be better than the theatrical cut.

And...I actually thought it was pretty good. Waaaaay better than the theatrical cut. And it's easily the best DC movie Zack Snyder made. It's actually the best realization of the DC universe ever put on the silver screen...or at least, meant for the silver screen. You can argue that something like "The Dark Knight" is a better movie, but it's so focused on Batman with no recognition of a wider DC universe or even Batman related characters.

So, a few reasons the movie is better, pretty obvious reasons:

-Cyborg and Flash get waaaaay more development, and Cyborg basically becomes the emotional heart of the movie that the theatrical cut was sorely missing.

-Steppenwolf is given an actually relatable motive. Basically he's a screw-up who's trying to redeem himself to Darkseid so he can go home. And his design is visually just cooler. He's still not the most memorable villain ever, but it's a huge improvement over how milquetoast he was in the theatrical cut.

-The threat of Darkseid actually feels more immediate and present, he actually functions in the story like the Emperor to Steppenwolf's Darth Vader.

-Superman's resurrection is handled better, more fleshed out with nice character moments.

-Less tonal whiplash from Whedon's self -referential humor, but while still having light-hearted moments here and there.

-The final battle feels more dramatic, it feels higher stakes. Flash's big moment is legitimately awesome, I've gone back and rewatched it multiple times. And the final takedown of Steppenwolf is way cooler.

Also, it's more a fanservice moment than something that makes the movie better, but I definitely had a fanboy moment when it was revealed that
the general guy we've seen since Man of Steel is actually the Martian Manhunter.

Overall I'm really glad this cut saw the light of day. (and I don't care if bots were involved in making it happen) Probably my favorite DC movie in over ten years. A worthy entry to the canon of superhero films, and I'm so glad that the Justice League got to be represented by this movie, and not just the garbage theatrical cut of the film. Though I will say it may be better to watch it in chunks rather than all in one go. I myself watched it in two sittings.

Just saw the film for the first time myself. I am dutifully impressed. There was either A LOT that was cut, which apparently is the case, and a LOT of reshoots because this movie cut out a fair bit of stuff IIRC and added so much it felt like a damned miniseries which is the films biggest flaw as well I suppose.

It's been so long since I saw Justice League in theaters and I only saw it once so a lot of things I was seeing in this movie really rekindled stuff I had completely forgotten. I call this a miniseries because it added lots of backstory on all of the characters but Cyborg and Flash especially. But even Aquaman got backstory as well as did Batman ofc. Technically the only drawbacks I feel are that even I seemed to notice some of the CGI seemed dated or underdeveloped. But that's more of a nitpick.

Overall I thought it was a good effort. Much more developed characters and it takes its time with them. The main story and what's at stake and going on is great and much stronger now as well. It really helps illustrate Snyder's vision for the DCEU. But as a movie it feels way too long. It took up two 4K discs actually and the story really goes on and on and on various tangents as well. It's never really boring, but there are a lot of diversions which also gives it a miniseries feel. So I would recommend checking it out. It is leagues (hurr hurr) better than the original Justice League theatrical release.

Also the epilogue was like almost half an hour long. The whole 'Knightmare' scene was actually a bit much for me. Just super random I feel.

One random scene (among many) that I really liked. The Ancient Battle Five Thousand Years Ago when Apokolips originally invaded. Loved that scene! Would it make sense in a theatrical film? Ehhhh.... maybe? Does it fit perfectly if you treat this like a miniseries saga? Absolutely! (y)
