Russia's Warm Water Port

Hmm, well...this is an interesting move, particularly given how close it is to the many foreign naval/military bases in Djibouti.

But Sudan probably would like the money, and it gives Russia a port on both sides of the Suez.

Be interesting to see how this affects the regional geo-political calculus.

They likely want to protect their shipping through the Mediterranean from both China and America. If I was Russia, I wouldn't trust the Democrats not to fuck with Russian shipping without provocation. They have gone through with enough stupid during the election that I wouldn't trust sabre rattling to be just empty bullshit for propaganda purposes.

Update on the story. The base will be small with 300 personnel and no more then four ships at a time presumably.

Looks like the Russian Naval Base in Sudan is being delayed or suspended for the time being. The new Sudanese military leadership that took control after the Coup seems to disagree on their Foreign Policy in regards to Russia and how it may threaten their relationship with Western powers.
