As I said in another post, this is exactly what the Germans did in Eastern Europe. Your Polish kids look "Aryan" enough? Shoot the parents, transport them to Germany, then "Germanify" them with a new family.
For someone who decries Ukraine as being Nazis, Putin and the Russian supporters of this war are walking in Hitler and the Nazi's exact footsteps.
Any chances for Russia to win this are long past.

They're definitely en route to defeat, but it isn't over until it's over. They could have a sudden attack of competence. It doesn't seem likely, but it's theoretically possible, and if Ukraine loses western support, they're in deep trouble.
That is exactly what is happening. Those poor kids. The unlucky kids who don't meet criteria . . . A lot of the kids in those mass graves have signs of rape and torture. One little boy was six. He and his mother were sheltering in the cellar under their ruined house. Russian soldiers came in demanded valuables, cash, food. They had nothing. The soldiers beat and raped her and when she denied having anything of value. The soldiers didn't believe her. Those Moskal bastards made her watch as they gang raped and tortured her son to death. They beat her and left her for dead. They interviewed her in the makeshift hospital when the Ukrainians liberated her village. This was televised all over, I don't know if it made it to Western Europe and the USA but it's not a unique atrocity.
More are being discovered with every Town and mass grave liberated from Russian hands. What the hell kind of monsters are they raising in Russia? Those bastards aren't Slavs they're Tolkien Orcs.
This god damned war is the Yugoslavians and Balkans all over again but larger scale!

An 'attack of competence' now would look like Russia troops marching on Moscow and the leadership getting purged by another Russian revolution.
Even a tac-nuke would not 'win' it for them, unless they used like 10-15 of them all at once.

Russia army really went to shit after they started conscripting convicts.
Apparently they very recently stopped (allegedly) conscripting convicts in an effort to try and clean up its army. But cleanup won't happen overnight.
You mean deeper into shit...
If Russian army didn't go into shit first, it wouldn't see a need to conscript convicts in the first place.

I am not talking about the new push in 2022 to conscript convicts to make up numbers after their losses in ukraine.
I am talking about how during USSR cold war era they started specifically conscripting convicts as a way to deal with prisoners.
At the time it was a cold war so there was no particular need for convict conscription
But it was a time when they had more convicts than they knew what to do with.
Of course they did. It was so bad people were sentenced to decades in the Siberian gulags for saying anything the KGB and its informants could take out of context. Looking or laughing at the wrong person. No trial, no evidence, boom off to Siberia and the Bratva controlled prisons. It helped solve the famines they created themselves.

while they did gulag a bunch of political prisoners, they still also had regular criminals too.
And I am going to go out on a limb and guess they probably didn't free and arm political prisoners (enemies of the state) but rather criminals (enemies of the populace. ideal allies for the state in suppressing the populace)
Kinda like what we are seeing in the USA. political prisoners held without trial for years and abused. While violent psychopaths who attack their fellow citizens are released and encouraged.
That was soviets did.And,they gave power to cryminals over normal people in gulags,too.

Pretty good article. It, unfortunately, meshes with my understanding of how Russia works as well.
The russians have acted like complete assholes for a very long time. There is a reason why the poles and the balts joined nato as quickly as they did. America has a lot of faults, were easily distracted have a national case of ADHD, were terrible at nuance and often have to rely on local allies to understand anything on the ground.
But we are no where near as bad as the russians and will gladly let our allies have a lot of autonomy.
