On the 19th October a kickstarter for the next Robotech RPG book will go live, for those of you who might like to have a look over the page before it goes live or might want to join in with the kickstarter itself at some point then please follow the link below. A lot of work has gone into this book and the add ons that you can get so I hope you all will at least have a look and think about backing us.

This is the second Kickstarted since Strange Machine Games took over the licence, so far everything has gone fine and the company have kept up their side of the deal, this one will be slightly bigger than the first but as far as I am aware there will be no problems once the Kickstarter ends.

Harmony Gold will get some of the proceeds due to the fact that they own Robotech and SMG only have a licence for the game, but most will go towards the game and its production above all else. A lot of work has gone into this by those involved and they really want to see this succeed.

Robotech is kinda related to that old Western Mil Sci-Fi Cartoon Exo-Squad isn't it?

Hmmmm I should give this series a try to be honest. It's always been on the periphery of my existence and potentially backing a new RPG game is as good an impetus as any I suppose.

No relation, aside from both being involved in various copyright lawsuits with Battletech via Harmony Gold. Story and design-wise Exo-Squad is totally different.

Robotech was made by Carl Macek from three anime, Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospeada, with some retouch work (such as airbrushing out the second sun in Southern Cross, which took place on an alien planet with a binary star originally) and massive dialogue changes to imply that it was all happening in one universe and the characters were related to each other. It spawned much of the dubs vs. subs wars due to having a totally different story than the original three animes and created the "Macekre" meme about butchering original material instead of being faithful to what was being translated.

Personally, I think it was a bit of an improvement, Mospeada and Southern Cross were apparently incredibly mediocre in Japan which is how Harmony Gold managed to get them so cheaply for the footage. However, Harmony Gold has since been ridiculously litigious about everything remotely near any of their properties to the extent that they're practically bad Saturday morning cartoon villains at this point, and I don't want to give them money even indirectly.

HG have been a little OTT regarding litigation but a lot of those have been cleared up especially with their recent agreements with the holders of the Macross rights solving most of them.

@Doomsought: They use the AD6 dice ruleset, its extremely easy to use and you can get a game going within an hour or two easily.

@Bear Ribs: Think of it more as supporting the fans that want to see more Robotech instead, believe me the people behind the new books care more for the game and the IP than Palladium or even HG themselves do.

Palladium is aweful. They try to shoehorn everything into a rule-set designed to simulate sword duels.
Palladium has more or less stopped trying to publish their own RPGs and has been busy licensing their stuff to third parties. The most recent RIFTS products are setting books for the Savage Worlds system, rather than their old d20 system.

So we managed to get the KS funded in fifteen minutes, over 200 backers and almost $30k in 24 hours. Well I hadn't said this before but one of the major reasons that I am pushing this book and will do the next one is because I'm one of the writers for the finished product. I've had input for over a year and will continue to do so with luck. I know some people here have read my work and I hope that some will back this books as well and enjoy some of the input I've had.

So we're 48 hours left of the Kickstarter, hopefully some of you might think about joining us with the. We're doing quite well but anyone is welcome on this one, the guys at SMG are very pleased with the backing we've been getting so thank you to anyone who has let others know or already backed us :)
