South American politics gets weird and it's "the lesser of two evils", just like it is in the US, with the major difference being that South American politicians often don't have to hide the ugly aspects of their pasts. Sometimes being able to say "Yup, I did that" when asked about something less than upstanding is an asset.
Well at least they're honest and upfront about stuff like that.

Peru's President Pedro Castillo replaced by Dina Boluarte after impeachment

"Wednesday's dramatic chain of events began with President Pedro Castillo giving an address on national television in which he declared a state of emergency. "
"He announced that he would dissolve the opposition-controlled Congress, a move which was met with shock both in Peru - several ministers resigned in protest - and abroad.
The head of the constitutional court accused him of launching a coup d'etat, while the US "strongly urged" Mr Castillo to reverse his decision.

Castillo was that desperate to stay in office by using this trick?
Well, Congress had already tried to impeach him 3 times, so I can understand somewhat his motivation. I wonder if he was enboldened by Lula's victory...

Also, interesting tidbit; when Castillo pulled his 'dissolution of Congress', Brazilian mainstream media immediately started labeling him as 'conservative'...

Do these assholes in the Brazilian Mainstream Media know that Castillo was a leftist when he won the 2021 Peruvian Presidential runoff election last year ?
