Rest In Peace ðŸ‡¬ðŸ‡§ Queen Elizabeth II Passing

I'm not a monarchist. I did live in the UK for 15 years, and I've talked to plenty who hated the monarchy while I was there but I never really saw the point in hating on the Queen, she was a stand-up respectable figurehead for the country and she did a good job from what I could see. I look back on the parade of increasing clown-like buffoons that are elected President and think the UK had it very lucky that their head of state was not an incompetent absurdity (not saying anything about the Prime Ministers here). Even though it's 101F here today in Southern California I'm having a cup of tea in her memory. I hope Charles does well in the role he's waited a lifetime for, he's got some big shoes to fill and the UK needs leaders and examples more than ever.

If you don't care, why did you come here to make a clearly inflammatory comment?

You're speaking ill of my King, Bulgarian. I don't take kindly to that.
Wasn't he actually on Epstines flight logs or some shit? I don't recall anymore.
IF that is true, why should we care about a cuck fetish towards protecting one family regardless of their personal merit just because their ancestors were great?

I think he'll do ok.

His job is basically smiling and waving for the cameras while occassionally reminding Parliament that he can say "no" their latest brilliant idea(tm) if he thinks it's utter idiocy.

George of Hanover was basically the designated "tag, you're it" when England, Scotland, and Ireland needed a King 1714.

Because his 83-year-old mother Sophia died just a couple of months earlier. Had she lived just a little bit longer, or British Queen Anne would have died slightly earlier, then Sophia would have become the British Queen and would have become the oldest person ever to acquire this title, being ten years older than even Prince Charles is right now.

I don't know what the state of her soul is as I'm not God and I know nothing about her life so I can't judge. but the fact that people are wishing hell on her for the mere crime of being right of Marx and getting along with Reagan is infuriating.
This is true. Christians should not wish hell on others. I can understand it if the person ACTUALLY wronged you. But well unless you were a Mao Mao rebel or maybe IRA, or basically fighting against the British for independence or something you don't have a reason to personally dislike the ruler of the British.

May the Enemies of the Crown be cursed.
The kingdom has survived more than a millennium and a half; it will survive another millennium and a half.
No matter how many of these traitors and enemies come out of their burrows.
I just have to say fuck this argument right here. Don't call people traitors, the only people who owed loyalty to your queen are englishmen. No one else has a duty to obey or respect your monarch, they are either have their own monarchs, or are Republicans. The UK is not the ruler of humanity.

I am an American. What's more, I am a Texan American, so by birthright I am more or less American depending on who you ask; I don't know much about the British monarchy, but I do know it is rather important, and the Queen especially since I've never heard anything negative about her. So while I have no great stake in her death I will offer a prayer and condolences to those who mourn her passing. And that would be the end of it were it not for sanctimonious assholes informing me that her death should be celebrated, of all things, and daring to bang a patriotic drum they would otherwise scorn for being the tool of their "oppressors". Speaking ill of the dead is bad enough, particularly when they have done no great evil, but to dig up ghosts of American history for use as mouthpieces is beyond the pale; fuck the spineless bastards trying to wrangle Americans into hating the United Kingdom and it's traditions, a country that hasn't been an enemy since the inception of our own, and ironically became one of its greatest allies.
Now this I have to say fuck off even more. As an American no you shouldn't wish harm on the leader of an allied nation, but if you are fetishizing the British monarchy the thing this nation was created to break free from, then you should lose your citizenship, and I'd rather have an illegal immigrant take your place.

I kinda understand the fear behind the adoption of the regnal name of Charles III, given that various English/British Kings with the name Charles does have a bad fate for them. Now I guess King Charles III the show must have aged rather well, since we're about to see said show in real time.

Parliament wanted someone protestant who had a legit claim and Sophie of Hanover was the most senior one after Mary, William, and Anne. She was also the only one who had kids when the Bill of Rights was written.

My condolences to all British people and to the royal family specifically.
May Queen Elizabeth II rest in peace. She was a great Queen.
Queen Elizabeth II reigned for 70 years between 1952 and 2022. There were 15 Prime Ministers under her. Winston Churchill was Prime Minister when she became Queen. She spanned several different eras of British culture and politics. She was a link to the past and her death is a historical event. I am only 19 turning 20 on 4 October and I am pretty sure I will never see a Queen of the United Kingdom again in my lifetime. Prince George is 11 years younger than me. I expect to live to see him as King of the United Kingdom but I am almost certain I won't outlive him which would be necessary for seeing a Queen of the United Kingdom again.

Don't give up just yet. George could live to 85 while you could live to 96+. But Yeah, the longer that George will live, the more that the odds will be stacked against you. You could, of course, get cryogenically preserved after your eventual death and hope for an eventual revival. Probably pretty low odds but they are not zero. At least, I don't think that they are zero.

This might be too soon to mention here, but one possible effect of her death could be a new republican referendum in Australia:

The last one in 1999 narrowly failed, but they could try again. They said that they wouldn't so long as Queen Elizabeth II is still alive, but that's no longer the case right now, so ...

You're overblowing the issue. The fact is that as an American someone can respect the Queen and The British Monarchy for what they have done for the UK as well as their traditions...

That being said that doesn't mean that these people want the U.S. to ever have a monarch or a monarchy in general, nor are they promoting it. Respecting the traditions of other nations is important and if you feel otherwise look to the greatest asshole that has ever been elected president (Woodrow Wilson) for reasons as to why you should, I feel that American Traditions involving governance are for strictly Americans or those who willingly by choice choose to adopt them and shouldn't be forced down other's throats or vice versa, otherwise you end up with the shitty world we currently live in where every other person is dead set on demanding every other country be like their favorite country/system of choice.

You should respect the UK's choices and they should respect ours.

In the Good Old Days the Monarch Joining the Choir Invisible automatically dissolved Parliament.
No longer applies?

So, the Sietch is now on deathwatch for Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Winsdor?
Officially it still does ceremoniously. No one is brazen enough to convene Parliament while the period of mourning and funeral is occurring. There might be a quite dispensation for emergencies but usually the new Monarch reinstates parliament after the burial.

Aussies may be brash but they have tact. They'll likely wait an appropriate time. At least two years. It'll take that long at the very least to organize the infrastructure and manpower for a referendum. Last time they did it they campaigned for the preceding 6 years on the topic. 10 if you count when their politicians first started discussing the topic publicly first in their local assembly then nationally.

There's also John of Beaumont Sans Terre. The youngest son of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. He's the off-screen bad guy in Robin Hood stories who had to come up with a literal king's ransom because he needed to post bail for his big brother King Richard the Lionheart.

King John was also the first king to be born in England since William the Conqueror took over in 1066. Also, Richard was not that good a king and saw England as his personal piggy bank.

John basically had to clean up the mess Richard left in his wake. The Magna Carta is one of the results.

Damn... just damn.

Rest in peace, Your Majesty.

Also, some Twittertard took a potshot at her death (the usual "colonial" rhetoric), a professor at an American university, IIRC. And you know the hilarious thing? Jeff Bezos --yes, that Jeff Bezos-- called her out on being a Leftoid NPC.

So I just hopped on the SpaceBattles thread about this very sad day (if this is against the rules, mods, feel free to remove), and they are already bleeting about colonialism and how many "atrocities" happened under Her late Majesty's reign. These are also some of the most upvoted comments.

That I have to share my precious oxygen with enemies of the crown disgusts me on a fundamental level.

Like many others of his breed (robber barons) Bezos seems to be realising just what sort of monster he got into bed with and is rather eager to get off that bed now.
