BREAKING NEWS: McConnell blocks the Police Reform Act, calling it government overreach; Biden administration blasts Republicans for killing the legislation
June 19th, 2021: Despite President Biden's call on pushing Congress to pass police reform legislation in light of the death of George Floyd in May 2020 including the violent protests from last summer, the Police Reform Act of 2021 was passed by the Democratic-controlled US House of Representatives in a highly partisan vote.

However, the legislation was quickly blocked & killed by US Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), who called the legislation "government overreach" & went further, stating "this garbage doesn't need to see the light of day because Americans don't want any outside agitators pushing socialism in this country."

In response, White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain tweeted "Senator McConnell loves the Southern Strategy so much, he'll be having the Ku Klux Klan attending committee hearings next".

DECISION 2021: NJ, VA gubernatorial contests closely watched
*June 17th, 2021: Exploiting the unpopularity of President Joe Biden's policies & the backlash against the Woke Culture as well as backlash against vaccine & mask mandates across the country, Republicans are on the offense by blasting the mandates & Critical Race Theory as well as other programs they've viewed as "government overreach".

In the Old Dominion: VA Governor Ralph Northam (D) is term limited by the Commonwealth's constitution from succeeding himself. But backlash is brewing very fast against the Democratic Party's nominee for the Governorship, former VA Governor Terry McAuliffe (D), who's campaigning to reclaim his old job that he held as VA's 72nd Governor from January 11th, 2014 to January 13th, 2018.

VA Democrats are worried about McAuliffe's lackluster campaign performance as Republicans have sought to unite behind Glenn Youngkin (R), whom many inside the National Republican Party view as a future contender for the White House in 2024 or 2028 should Youngkin win in November.

Down-ballot: The race for VA Lieutenant Governor to succeed outgoing VA Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax (D) will likely come down to State Del. Hala Ayala (D) vs former State Del. Winsome Earle Sears (R-Stephenville); VA State Attorney General Mark Herring (D), who originally ran for Governor before dropping out to seek reelection in his current post, will face off against State Del. Jason Miyares (R-Virginia Beach).

Both political parties are keeping close eye on the VA House of Delegates, where VA Democrats currently hold a 55-45 majority having won back both chambers of the VA General Assembly in 2019.

Meanwhile in the Garden State: Polling surveys show incumbent NJ Governor Phil Murphy (D) leading by double digits against challenger former State Assemblyman Jack Ciattarrelli (R). When asked if they're concerned about the polls, the NJ Republican Party has rejected such pessimism because of recent historical trends: no incumbent Democratic NJ Governor has won reelection in 44 years since the late Brendan Byrne (D), who won reelection as Governor in 1977 during then-President Jerry Brown's administration when Democrats won the White House in 1976.
