So as many of you are no doubt aware both Microsoft and Xbox will be releasing their next gen consoles and furthermore they have been trying their D*mndest to keep the price a state secret as long as possible.

So what are your thoughts on the new next gen consoles as well as how much you think they will cost?

Consoles are like the Iphone, Shiny, new, and you must buy a newer model to keep up. Plus you have the cult surround each console arguing about which one is better. $500-700 easy depending on the shiny accessories.

A $700 console makes no sense. Consoles have almost always been sold at a loss because they expect to make it up with video games (unlike phones, which are only sold at a loss if they are locked to a single provider - with consoles, the single provider is locked in always).

With a $700 console, all your competitor needs to do is sell it at $500 (easy for either Sony or Microsoft to take the loss at that price point) and you've just won the console wars.

I would be very surprised if the standard version of either of them is above $500.

Realistically I think there will probably be disc-less versions of each available for $300-$400 dollars at launch. (Since with Disc-less you both can't buy pre-owned games and must buy directly from the Sony/Microsoft downloadables story, saving them a lot of money total, they can afford to sell disc-less consoles at a steeper loss.)

You also have to take into account the shiny accessories (VR headset, speakers, $50 controller, more HDD space, etc) those will be the deciding factor in the price for the different packages they will put out. Plus you have the later 'Pro' models that will come out.

Well in the Series X case you don't have to worry about half of that, as it doesn't do the VR, speakers aren't strictly needed, the control's of the previous gen work on the new console to a lesser extent, but still support the new games so there is another money saver.

Seriously if you are going to count unnecessary add on's in the final cost why not just add six or so games and inflate the console's price to 1,000+ to barely under what a good gaming P.C. would cost without any accessories or games.

Trick question, the real winner will be whatever Nintendo brings out, because only handheld gaming consoles have value in the current marked.

This is a hot take to take all hot takes. How you came up with such a dumb take I have no idea.

In reality the PS4 has still outsold the Switch by about 40,000,000 units.

Understood, to give something manageable $450-$550 range depending on what model you buy.

This is the model without disk drive surprisingly affordable...
